Hyan's Blurbs

About me:

I'm a very-small-time content creator, I read the news in a fruity voice and generally piss off balding racist, sexist and transphobic incels with simple questions. I also create road signs, occasional logos, center labels and various other strange ephemera that might interest folk of certain ADHD-laden persuasions. I also have a website I barely use at the moment because life is fuckin' hectic. Otherwise, I'm online a lot and I'm also doing a ton of things when my breaker isn't tripped.

Who I'd like to meet:

Drop a line if any of my interests are, well, interesting to you! Same with music, it'd be nice to dish a little and trade some musical interests around as well.

Your profile refers to ngeneva.net as a memorial site, but I've never understood which part is the memorial? Unless you consider your nationstate to be a largely dead project and you're saying that you keep the site up as a memorial to your nation? That's the assumption I've been operating under, but I still don't feel certain I understand things exactly as they are.

Report Comment

well I just got up, I guess the memorial part is to the artist who last had the site some 20+ years ago. honestly, if it wasn't for him I would'nt have done a whole lot more with the internet. right now, it's kinda parked, so to speak.

may talk about it a bit more in depth when the time comes I suppose, I need caffeine first

I look forward to the time which hasn't yet come.

Sorry I haven't been keeping up with the times a bit, I've done three evening shows, I feel like I'm in the demand cycle. I'll be typing up something later to explain a bit better. Been busy between updating assets, doing the shows, and sign work.

Were you on another myspace clone before spacehey popped up, or did you end up here somehow else?

Report Comment

I was not, surprisingly. I came here by mysterious forces (read: I don't recall). Just been here and there.

Haven't really been many other places like this on the net, though.

by Hyan; ; Report

Is that something you'd like to do eventually, or do you feel happy with what you have here? Or perhaps you'd like to see more but don't have the time? Or the space? Or the place?

by Fawkes; ; Report

all good questions, which I must ponder

am I ultimately happy here? nah. happiness is periodic in my philosophy
it could always use improvement, but I am hardly the person to recommend such improvements. hell, I might be retooling my layout if/when ikoe comes back.
is there more I wanna see? sure, but I am fine to sit back and see where things take me

am ultimately not the driver, just the passenger

If you could live anywhere, including impossible places like video games, books, etc. Where would it be?

Report Comment

idk I keep cycling back to like, small towns and this one specific abandoned house in Thelen. Either that or the NEC Supertower. Jury's still out on that one. Those are defo the two that come to my mind.

by Hyan; ; Report

How would you live in the NEC supertower. Is the fantasy being a CEO/executive character and having the privileged of living in a large office, or are you a big fan of living like a rat and avoiding getting kicked out of a business whose walls you've decided will be your home?

by Fawkes; ; Report

I'm hardly the executive type, I just think it'd be a change from a ratty old apartment sometimes. But the house in Thelen speaks a bit more, despite it having been turned to rubble in the last 12 years. the architecture and the 'home' feel are more the point I guess. There's some... flat isolation in Daglum and Thelen. To have a slice of life that's accessible, I wager.

with notable shame on my part, i don't think i've ever told you that i keep thinking about this segment off of /recollection to the point where i've quoted it in passing when talking with some buds;

"Oh, but you can do whatever you want with this site, who cares?" I care. I give enough of a shit to wipe my feet before visiting or staying. It's practically part and parcel of human thought, right next to "don't shit where you eat" and "I wonder if I have a chance with the girl with the club foot and the nice tits", clearly.
kudos for putting this onto (digital) paper

Thoughts on the final selections for the new Minnesota flag and seal?

Report Comment

they could do better but it's been design-by-committee. they at least have the right idea in choosing F1953, the others have their flaws in various sorts

they just need to not make it heavily Dakotized, there's more than one god damn tribe in this state. so many critics however are like "waaaahh it's too simple/corporate" and I'm staring at these fucking jackoffs going "and you think the shield-on-a-field shit is good still? are you fucking kidding me? most every other state has that and it's not fucking original in the slightest."

so we'll see what happens. if they fuck up the flag it'll be one of those watershed moments. if they get it right somehow, more power to them.

Does your nation use an existing road sign standard, or have you invented your own?

Report Comment

Funny you should ask! I've been working on developing a standard for a while now. It takes bits and pieces from Canada, Australia, and the US MUTCD with a few twists. I have in the master sign list: the old Australian W8-1 warning triangle, signs for motorways and expressways, California's "road is over here" large downward arrow, Canada's checkerboard object marker for the end of a road, a drawbridge legend, a trapezoidal EXIT gore sign, Canada lane control signs (white on black), New Zealand-style red-border, white on black text worded signs for trucks, and object markers out the ass.

I went through the trouble of procuring all SEVEN FHWA font weights (Series A (discontinued in the 60s in the US) through F) just to be as accurate as possible.

I am always thinking of more signs as time goes on.

by Hyan; ; Report

Do you keep track of all of this information in your head, do you produce digital standards documents, or do you document by hand? I'd love to see the systems you've put together if you can easily provide images.

by Fawkes; ; Report

All sign images are saved to a folder that I compile off of wikipedia - if the sign does not exist I can likely fabricate it in paint.net as I have definitely moved to using that program more than the old standby (mspaint.exe). As far as a unifying standard in the vein of the MUTCD I have not gone through and reclassified all the signs as of late because of the ol bronchioles having a massive viral fit, and so the list is not exhaustive quite yet. I am always eyeing Caltrans standards because they are quite literally the first system I grew up with, and there are competing ideas as far as mile markers, speed limits, sign arrangements and the like.

Everything I do as far as text placement and colors is, because of constraints, eyeballed pretty loosely, Series E Modified is one of those things I have to mind a bit more closely as that font is for destinations and lane organization. Fitting the text to the sign can be a challenge especially if we're talking informational signage - I have a lot of work to do. I operate largely off of rules of thumb and intense visual study of the applications.

I really appreciate all the flags that are just photos. It's such a funny idea to have a full resolution image that no one could ever replicate by hand as a flag.

another great question

informally, I think I tried in minecraft just to pass the time but more often than not it's been an "on paper" thing since probably 1998

see, we had to do this assignment in english class and it went from kind of a weird jokey thing, through determining my political alignment in high school six years later, to it graduating now out of a sense of "god, wouldn't it be great to have a country I could call my own" melding ideas from defunct hentai creators who haven't been in the mix since I was in freshman year, and now here we are

have often given thought to what kind of actual formal uniform I should wear but I don't have the slightest thing to that effect

by Hyan; ; Report

Did you just say that your aspirations for your own nation are influenced by long gone hentai?

by Fawkes; ; Report

only in a small part; the name

the majority of the thing is a weird blend of ... big-tent one-party state rule, mixed with some American constitutional ideas aspiring to be a workers' state that doesn't suck ass. and it's all situated in the upper Midwest.

to be fair, hentai did in one way jumpstart my researching politics, the early 2000s were really something else for that. lots of censorship, the 8e6 R2000 filter...

Surprisingly yes

by Hyan; ; Report

Have you written your own, learning one, or are you just interested in the topic?

by Fawkes; ; Report

I've tried for decades but it ended up with me learning bits of other languages like German, Russian, Georgian, Kanza, things like that. Really interested in Mongolian square script and I've made a few alphabets anew

any flag you perceive as perfect on a strict rules-of-design basis, or just by plain 'n simple aesthetics? (on the flip side, any flags you consider awful for any reason? '89-'15 Provo, Utah comes to mind, personally}

Report Comment

god that's a good question, lemme pause youtube here

honestly, there's a lot of shitty flags, but some people get really inventive with banners of arms (coats of arms on a flag essentially)

the shittiest flags are always the seal-and-field type. unoriginal. bland. blue field, state seal, rinse and repeat.

having a look here
Kiribati is a dynamic flag, I like that
Transnistrian flag can be worked with
the early Canadian flag
the Osaka city flag
the merchant flag of Imperial China

there's more, but as someone who tools with flags from time to time, I'm still keen on getting my WLP flag up next month. have not decided on its size though.

by Hyan; ; Report

wanted to dedicate some time to staring at these before replying. largely agreed, but early Canada is where you lost me. are we looking at the same flag or...?

by Ikoe; ; Report

The 1921 version, not the 1965 version, still talking Red Ensign but different shield in the fly

by Hyan; ; Report

still can't see it. maybe i just subconsciously hate the union jack too much for it to click with me or something.

by Ikoe; ; Report

oh I'd replace the Union Jack with our own naval jack here but REALLY I want the Imperial China merchant flag. It's simple imo. It's not ostentatious.
