It had honestly gotten me through the past year....

I am always so happy to find company in the gaudy/kitschy maximalist fans~

It's a pity that minimalist design often gets lumped together with Minimalism (capital-M art movement type minimalism) as I'm actually fond of the latter. I do recognize that the term has come to mean conservatively modernist in many peoples minds though, understandably so. It's sad that minimalism and maximalism often get touted as opposing forces, because a lot modern art of the throughout 00's and into the early 2010's actually hovered between those two extremes. Artists are so often subjected to labels they themselves never concocted, don't you think? :3

absolutely! it is the unfortunate reality of art and art history...as best as we try to see things in terms of how they were produced and examine the livelihoods of cultural producers it more often than not gets misconstrued into something that serves a complete unrelated narrative. i am not sure if that makes sense...but i feel strongly haha

speaking of minimalism (small m), are there any visual artists or works that you are particularly drawn to?

Sorry it took me a while to get back to you! (I was asleep ;p)
It did give me ample time to recall a fairly hefty amount of names worth Googling though. Here's some artists whose work clearly borrows from the visual language and developments of minimalism, but with a colourfully individualist streak. A lot less austere and pointlessly macho as "capital-M" Minimalism could be (think Sol LeWitt, Carl Andre, Donald Judd, etc)...

Michael Beutler
Steve Bishop
Carol Bove
