I'm an avid reader of books, short fiction, non-fiction, literary-criticism, academic/essayist texts, zines, poetry, artsy UG comics, art surveys, exhibition catalogues, photography publications and magazines. I have a very open-ended taste in music of various styles and (sub)genres, primarily of the independent/underground/D.I.Y./outsider variety, but I have a strict zero tolerance policy in regards to gatekeeping and elitism. I spend an inordinate amount of time watching online content, YT and Twitch channels, etc. Other than what I'll primarily focus on in this profile, I also have interests in history, weird nature and biology, Fortean subjects and eating extremely unhealthy food. |

Sure, we all feel a little bit embarrassed about our weird interests from time to time. We fear not being understood, we fear being mocked for it, etc. I think what gatekeeping and elitism is the crystallization of that anxiety into an unhealthy defence mechanism, one that pre-emptively builds barriers to anyone "outside" the elitists comfort zone. It's self-doubt and fear masquerading as confidence, and it's so pitifully obvious. by Freakish Uproar; ; Report I can't tell you the amount of times I've been quizzed on something that I mention enjoying even if it's just a small hobby or a franchise that I started getting into.
