just call me Kayla! 𖤓𓂃 ོ𓂃°⭒₊ i am a scholar, educator, & artist. i was on myspace back in the day and miss the vibes, so i’m here trying to recreate a little of that (plus 2014 tumblr vibes). i get an unreasonable amount of joy out of tinkering with html and rearranging pixels. offline, i’m into low-effort hiking, being near water, sitting outside when it’s not disgusting out, and traveling.

also here for media debriefs, dog updates, niche memes, and low-stakes friendship. i’m bad at keeping up with constant IMs; i do better with occasional check-ins, comments, and bulletins than daily back-and-forth, please don’t take slow replies personally. you are not entitled to anyone's attention, ever. the attention economy really eroded our brains sense of normalcy, please go touch grass.

Best FACES Forward: Outcomes of an Advocacy Intervention for Black Parents Raising Autistic Youth

Our article looks at whether FACES, an advocacy training program, can help Black parents raising autistic youth navigate service systems and push back against the extra barriers they often face. Using a quasi-experimental pre/post design with 16 parents, the study found that after the program, parents reported greater family empowerment, more school communication, and stronger confidence in their advocacy ability.
