Alex's Interests

General

I love music (both making it and listening to a fairly wide variety), making art (mostly 3D and drawn space art), writing, and worldbuilding! (Often worldbuilding is considered merely a part of the process of writing or art or something else, but I like to do it for its own sake). As I'm sure is clear, I'm a very creative person! If I didn't do something creative in a day I think I'd explode or something lol.

Because I'm obsessed with space, most of what I'm interested in either involves it somehow or is related, or is a branch from something that is. For instance, I play video games, and most of what I play are space games. However, one major exception to that is that I play a lot of Minecraft! The mega-bases I build in that game are nothing to sneeze at.

Among the many aspects of space one can be interested in, I'm quite interested in astrophysics, specifically! I run various kinda of astrophysical simulations on a fairly regular basis for fun, so perhaps one day I'll be able to make a career of doing that.

I'm also quite interested in horror of various kinds, especially of the scifi variety. I love listening to narrations of SCP articles or creepypastas or the like.

Music

I love both listening to music and making it myself.

The music I make is best described as sci-fi soundtrack music, as it otherwise ranges in genre from ambient to electronic to orchestral, and occasionally rock or metal, but generally it has a sci-fi or space theme.

As for the music I listen to, there's lots:

Genres:
Hard rock, space/future rock, goth rock, ambient/post rock, stoner rock (not a stoner myself but I can enjoy the music lol), doom metal, drone metal, black metal (especially atmospheric, particularly of the space-themed variety), basically anything industrial (of the electronic variety, or rock, metal, even ambient despite how rare that is), gothic metal, EBM, synth metal, darksynth, synthwave, darkwave, dark ambient, dungeon synth, winter synth

Bands:
Starset, Three Days Grace, Soul Extract, Thriving Ivory, Broken Iris, Trees of Eternity, Draconian, Owl, Mosquito, The Morendoes, Eurynome, Keygen Church, Hollywood Burns, Master Boot Record, The Algorithm, Circle of Dust, Darkstronaut, Scandroid, Celldweller, Thousand Foot Krutch, Skillet, Linkin Park, I-Human, Tortuga, The Lost Sun, Windveill, Mesarthim

I'll continue listing more later!

Movies

Interstellar, Gravity, The Martian, Mortal Engines, City of Ember, Dune, Blade Runner, 9, Wall-E

Television

(very incomplete list in no particular order...yes I know it's a lot for an incomplete list...) Teen Titans, Leviathan, Ben 10 (all series), The Owl House, Samurai Jack, Gravity Falls, Adventure Time+Fionna and Cake, My Adventures with Superman, Steven Universe (+Future), FInal Space, Regular Show, Unicorn: Warriors Eternal, She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, Infinity Train, Rick and Morty, Clone High, Growing Up Creepie, Hazbin Hotal, Helluva Boss, Bojack Horseman, Inside Job, Justice League (+Unlimited) Love Death & Robots, Common Side Effects, The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy, Danny Phantom, Villainous, Fired on Mars, The 100, Smiling Friends, Robotomy, The Amazing World of Gumball, Scooby Doo (all series), Dexter's Lab, The Powerpuff Girls (original series), Star Trek (Voyager, Lower Decks, Enterprise, TNG, TOS, TAS)

Alex's Blurbs

About me:

I'm Alex, a 25-year-old guy from Texas who is absolutely obsessed with outer space. I've been a space nerd since I was a child, and perhaps it was always meant to be, because I have permanent night vision. I have an eye condition called aniridia, which is the lack of an iris, the part of the eye that adjusts to compensate for different levels of light. This basically gives me unusually good but also permanent night vision (meaning my eyes can't adjust to brighter light). This makes daytime extremely bright to me, and nighttime far more comfortable. So perhaps it was always meant to be that I would be fascinated by the endless night beyond our little world.

I wear many, many "hats", so to speak, over my life I've become an artist, music-maker, sound designer, writer, worldbuilder, gamer, sci-fi fan, and many other things! I've also dabbled in photography, voice acting, and filmmaking and I'd like to try doing those more!

I'm a college student, looking to get an Associate of Science degree, which I'm very close to graduating with! After that I'm not sure what I'll be doing, as I have a lot of options that seem equally viable.

Who I'd like to meet:

People with the same or similar interests to me!

Love your profile, dude. I've always been so intrigued by space, probably not as into as you are, but I do love the study of stars. The sun was my first obsession when I was a kid and it just went from there. Hit me up sometime!

Thanks for the add!! Love your profile btw, the layout is sick!! It's been a big month for space nerds! Have you seen Project Hail Mary yet? I haven't but everyone that I know that has absolutely loves it! And the Artemis II launch! Their new pictures of the moon and Earth are so sick. I love that you can see the Aurora Borealis from space, I think that's so cool! And the way the moon looks so pearlescent from the titanium and iron oxide is so pretty. I saw someone compare it to moonstone, which is so fitting, don't you think?

Thanks so much, I appreciate it! It sure has! I have not seen it yet, haven't really had time, but I definitely want to, because I've heard a lot of praise for it! Yeah, that was super cool, I watched both the launch and the splashdown live, I was too busy that week to watch much else live but I agree, all of the pictures I've seen from the mission have been incredible! Yeah, the aurorae are surprisingly visible and I've always found that fascinating. Interesting, I haven't seen that comparison but that is very cool! And definitely fitting haha. One of my favorite parts of the mission was that they actually got a solar eclipse because of the trajectory they took, and that trajectory was only possible because of when they launched, had the delays not happened or more delays had happened, it wouldn't have happened, but it's so cool being able to see all in one photo the Earth's illumination of the moon, the moon itself, the outer solar corona, and the stars and several planets. I also hear they saw flashes on the side that was experiencing night, which were likely small impacts, and the amount/brightness of them that were seen was more than anticipated which I find very interesting.

i love ur about me section, u just seem extremely rad!! thx for accepting! i too love outer space, tho i'm more interested in the human aspect of it: the space race, astronauts, satellites, the far future for humanity... than the actual scientific aspect of black holes and ice planets (i'm ALSO interested in that but less) ^^

Thanks so much! You seem pretty rad too! Of course, always happy to accept friend requests from awesome people :-) That stuff is very cool as well! Have you heard of the YouTube channel Isaac Arthur? He makes really cool videos about those sorts of things with a dash of the other stuff I'm more into, but honestly my favorite videos of his are about humanity's distant future and all the crazy cool stuff we could do with space infrastructure, megastructures etc. He also does very informative videos on the Fermi Paradox and various proposed solutions to them, pros and cons of these solutions, and such. Very interesting videos all around so I'd highly recommend!

Hi! Your page is super cool! Space is absolutely a beautiful mystery, and NASA or some sort of space centered job better hire you on! Also congrats on the degree!

Thanks! I appreciate that a lot. I wish they would but I'm probably still a long way off from that haha, unfortunately. But maybe one day. Thanks! I should actually currently be in my last semester for this degree now, there are some other things I want to do at this college though but hopefully I should have my degree here soon :-)

Your page is so awesome!!
Also if you've never tried it you might like the game Starbound!! It's really cool and I love the fact that we have a ship we can upgrade as we go through space :D

Report Comment

Thank you, I appreciate it!
I'll definitely have to try that out! I love games where you can customize/upgrade/etc your spaceship, those are my favorite space games, Avorion is one of my favorites for that reason, among many other reasons of course :-)

by Alex; ; Report

Woah! Avorion is so cool looking!! I've never heard of it before but I'm definitely gonna play it now that I have :D

by Sacrificial-Ritual-Subject; ; Report

Definitely do! I've had so much fun playing Avorion, one time I was legitimately starting to build my own faction on the map with a fleet and supply chains and everything! Maybe we could play it together sometime! Is Starbound the kind of game where playing together would be a possibility there as well?

by Alex; ; Report

Having a whole fleet is super cool :D must've been so worth it to see the results of hard work, watching all your routes in action
It is multiplayer!! I didn't know that since I've only played alone but upon further inspection it apparently is which is really cool!!

by Sacrificial-Ritual-Subject; ; Report

Absolutely, it was really cool even just to sit back and watch the factories trading resources even with NPCs, my ships flying around doing their rounds or mining or patrolling or whatever, and the bigger your fleet/faction grows the more resources you have to make it grow further, I never got too crazy far with it but theoretically you could basically take over the galaxy if you wanted lol.
Ah awesome! I get that, as I often play games singleplayer too, so sometimes I need to check haha. So we could play either/both together, awesome! (not at the same time lol, although Avorion used to be automatable enough for that to be a possibility, not as much these days unfortunately)

Your page is so cool!! I don't think I've met someone as excited about Astrophysics as my favorite professor (who sort of got me into it), what sort of simulations are you running? I'm not super informed about the subject but I remember learning a lot about star clusters from mentioned professor !!

Report Comment

Thanks so much! It's always awesome to have a professor excited about what they're talking about! I was really happy when I took Stars and Galaxies because my professor was also excited and happy to talk about it, you can really tell he really loves the subject. When I took uni physics 1 with him the semester before last he and I started working on getting an astronomy club started, hopefully it should be official starting later this month! As for my simulations, I have a bunch posted on my YouTube channel, I've recently even began creating soundtracks for the videos! Usually, I like to simulate scenarios with galaxies, star systems, black holes (although unfortunately, my simulations are Newtonian, so only approximations for a couple of effects from General Relativity), supernovae, planets and rings, tons of stuff really. What I would most like to do is simulate the formation of star systems and exoplanets but geez those are difficult computationally! Anyway before this wall of text gets too enormous lol, feel free to send me a message if you want to talk about astrophysics stuff or anything really, as you can see I'm happy to talk your ear off lmao!

by Alex; ; Report

Hey thank you for responding to my comment!! and oh my gosh I hope the club does get started soon!! I got introduced more enthusiasm when the astronomy club in my uni planned a trip to an observatory to see the Comet Tsuchinshan–ATLAS !!! we got like,, bad pics but it was something to at least see considering we couldn't see it at ALL with our bare eyes unlike certain countries... (we had bad smog so its fair)!! and your simulations sound so interesting !! I wish I could discuss more but I don't know or understand how to go by them, But I am interested in hearing more about your simulations!! and have you uploaded the music by chance? I'd love to listen to them !!

by SpectreBurbank; ; Report

Of course, I'm quite happy to! And I've seen the messages you've sent me, I'll get to those once I've responded here :-) I hope so too! I believe we've got all the requirements met but I haven't gotten confirmation that we're official yet, unfortunately, but hopefully that's just because we're in between semesters currently. That's super awesome! I hear the old astronomy club at my college did that sort of thing too before it disbanded for a number of reasons, and hopefully we'll eventually be able to in the new one too, because that sounds really fun! Well, I'm happy to talk about them haha. I'm not sure what you mean by not understanding something to discuss more, but if you let me know I'll help as best I can. If you mean the music for the simulations, I haven't uploaded the music anywhere aside from the videos of the simulations, but I do plan to release them on music platforms with my other music eventually, that's just quite a while off unfortunately. Guess it gives me time to make more and make an album of it lol. By the way, here's the link to my YouTube channel where I upload the videos of the simulations I run, the most recent few are the ones with the soundtracks, all of the other ones are silent.
