This is subject to change as I have not yet endured one of their winters, so I might have rose-tinted glasses here. But throwing in an extra for us American folks, Utah was surprisingly beautiful. Report Comment Aight, so while I was in Japan, it was an unusually cold winter, and overnight it had snowed a fair amount. I was in Kyoto at the time, so I wasn't going to let that stop me from exploring all of the historic sites. I put on my boots and gloves and layered up before taking a train to the Arashiyama bamboo forest. The monkeys were unavailable to tourists due to the cold weather. But there were a number of very old shrines and temples there that I explored. It is custom to perform a particular ritual of bowing, clapping, and sometimes washing your hands and mouth before entering a shrine and paying respects, praying, etc. I must have somehow blundered this ritual because later in my trip, in Tokyo, I had a super vivid nightmare. In this nightmare, some demonic entity straight of the Inuyasha anime calmly explained that I had overstayed my welcome and needed to go back home. So I heeded his advice and cut my trip short by half a week or so. Trusting my gut like that has never done me wrong before.
