this is such a good question. we should break that down.

what do we mean by power level? the dbz sense? the /pol/ sense? a different third sense, maybe. let's begin with the titular character - hank hill. by being the protagonist alone, that gives him a very high power level. an easy frontrunner. that isn't even including his actions throughout the series.

let's move on to my favorite, dale gribble slash rusty shackleford. he easily takes the /pol/ power level. he also proves time and time again to be the most cerebral of the group.

boomhauer, also makes sense. a texas ranger and 'blind idiot god' trope of the group. a moral compass that even hank has routinely deferred to.

bill, you can argue. a war experiment. he could have gone spider man, he could have gone captain america. we got bill. is he more or less any different than those two heroes? time will tell on that one. he was a star in high school, the 'billdozer' was a force to be reckoned with. such a force that hank has his name tattooed on his head.

point being, you can make a case for any of them to have the highest power level. i think by virtue of fiction alone, hank takes the cake. that's not even taking into consideration the cruel tutelage of cotton hill.

bobby makes an honorable mention, along with lucky and gilbert where you can also make valid cases.

Very well thought answer. I usually think of power level in terms of ability to defeat the others being ranked. defeat, however, does not however have to mean destroying your opponent. If the billdozer could infinitely tank any sort of damage the others could inflict, he could defeat them all by making their powers futile against him, making him the most powerful by my standards. That's not to say that Bill is the most powerful, as I'm not convinced that the billdozer is immune to all damage. Dale might be closer to that title in fact, since we've seen him be consumed whole by a horde of ants, and survive feeling only a little parched.

your line of thought is similar to mine. the billdozer is such a solid contender. it's easy to think of bill as a metaphor for america. the sleeping dragon. when he is awoken - you see the atom bomb or breaking a high school football record in his 40s. both are equally astonishing in my true and honest opinion. bill is a berserker.

dale is the man behind the curtain. of course you see feats of his power, but he has a subtle nature which, to me, alludes to a deeper power. this is opposed to the more outright showing of force that you see with bill.

Dale is an almost bureaucratic and Kafkaesque power. I truly believe him when he claims to have killed every bug in town. That kind of thorough extermination suggests his power is dispersed, rather than being a single point of energy. I'm not sure of that makes him stronger or weaker than the the others.

that's such a solid and succinct way of putting it. though, i would typically align bureaucracy and kafkaesque in the same breath. it's an absurdity of the mundane. it's two cops investigating a murder-suicide in a dining room at a suburban town house and commenting on the brand of microwave mashed potatoes served at the dinner table. that's the power of dale gribble, being able to actually see the forest for the trees.

to your point of if that makes someone weaker or stronger - does God become less powerful through omnipresence? no, God remains as is. the construction of concepts in human terms is irrelevant to something that doesn't apply to human terms. that could also apply to fiction. if you look at, say, popeye the sailor man or goku the saiyan, it's exactly the same.

it all, and i do mean all, comes down to the scope that you perceive the subject in.

I think the difference between dale and god is that the omnipresence of god comes at no cost to the idea of god as a single, knowable entity. I'm not sure that dale, the man, is truly inseparable from the invisible force of dale, the exterminator. If the two can be separated and dale the man is weak without his abilities as an exterminator, then I'm not sure how much that should take away from his power level overall.

I spelt on it and I frankly can not put dale on the same level as god. I think that the difference is that dale is too unique. I think the prominence of his earthly form takes away from his godly power, where the iea of god is much more abstract.
