Hi there! I saw you like Buffy, too-- I'm currently watching Angel for the first time. It's especially interesting / harrowing to watch in the midst of the news about what happened to Charisma and others. Do you have thoughts on it?

Hi! Funny you should say that, since I actually *just* finished my full re-watch of Buffy last week and started watching a few episodes in Season 5 of Angel. Though, I should probably start from the beginning since it's been so long since I've actually seen the series and don't remember certain things. I wonder how knowing what happened behind the scenes will impact how I view the later seasons (and the treatment of Cordelia). How are you liking it so far?

You're right, the timing is definitely weird! I have no doubt that what Charisma Carpenter, Amber Benson, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and others are saying is true—–I started watching the series when I was 9 years old, but as I got older I could tell that something was off with Joss. And learning even later that Xander was his self-insert character, a lot of things just kinda clicked. How he could create such a feminist show that was so ahead of its time in many ways and then be such an awful person to (mostly) the women of its cast is definitely disappointing. But hey, just because you're a fantastic writer doesn't mean you're a fantastic person. That said, I don't think that the impact that the show had should be diminished. There are so many other talented people who brought Buffy to life, and their contributions should be just as valued. Personally, I haven't followed Joss's later work beyond a few episodes of Dollhouse (which I watched as it aired when I was 17) and don't plan to start any time soon. Buffy will always remain my first fandom ever, and I'm grateful that I had it growing up.

Wow, sorry for the novel haha! But it's definitely an important topic and brings up a good point of how we should view the art that we consume critically (even as much as we want to use it as a form of escapism to avoid such heavy topics).
