魔 Jouissance

General

My main gist is gorelesque, and like my performance art, my career is very unorthodox. Most burlesque artists train for two years before performing in a troupe and finally debuting as a soloist. My journey went something more like this…

Music

After I graduated highschool, I started a Bachelor of Music (Music Theatre) at the Australian Institute of Music (AIM). Then, I started working in the new theatre scene, starting as a dancer in Comfort, Spin, Travel (2023, Fruit Box Theatre) to singing solo in the line up of Piano Lounge II (2024) at Powerhouse Youth Theatre (PYT) and leading a new musical in a table read for Little Big Dreams (2024, PYT). In 2023, I took three months of masterclasses with International Burlesque Star Evana de Lune, and in January of 2024, I participated in the summer camp of the continent’s top burlesque school, Maison Burlesque, and that was the start of my descent transition into gorelesque.

Movies

In 2024, Regan Anderson (Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Squint Eye Media) starred me in her debut documentary in motion. When she casted me, I was dancing in a music & dance duo with Ariel Robin. We had been stirring up the experimental music & dance scene  on Darug Nura, kicking off with our debut in Music & Movement (2024. OurVerse) at PARI and then performing at festivals such as Cultural Fusion (2024, CITY Project X Youth Off The Streets) and Winter Beats (2024, The Street University).

Television

I also started picking up some screen acting jobs on the side and found myself in the weird and wonderful world of vertical soap operas. I started working with The Little Fox Films and am now with Roaring Pictures, founded by my current agent, Mai Kanhukamwe (0400 083 275). I am now writing my own parody of a vertical soap opera based on my experience as a skeptic medium and breaking up with my ghost boyfriend, Jerry (yes, this actually happened). I’m not yet sure what to title this soap opera, maybe Skeptic Medium (and/or psychic or whatever).

Books

Speaking of Jerry, I am also currently writing a short anthology of short stories. I shall upload my short stories to my blog, so you may read them! I also wrote a silly lil’ performance-art thesis in 2024 proposing the merger of body-horror and burlesque. I had seen gorelesque artists strip as sexy zombies or erotically bite people’s necks as vampires or disrobe as witches taking a sensual bloodbath. But I had never seen someone strip their skin down to their flesh, organs, and bones. My thesis bore the question—or challenge rather: when somebody becomes more naked than naked, is that still seductive? When does pleasure become pain? Or do the two merge into one another and become one, jouissance? That became my experiment.

Heroes

I must thank Jemima Dunsmore (she/her), Artistic Director of The Latest Rumour, for realising my solo burlesque debut. She had invited me to co-produce her Double Seventh Day (2024) show, and I had mentioned my body-horror burlesque art thesis to her. She was instantly hooked and immediately granted me a feature act in her next show at the iconic Lazybones jazz lounge. And that was The Birth of 魔 𝓙𝓸𝓾𝓲𝓼𝓼𝓪𝓷𝓬𝓮 (literally, that was the name of my act). Very soon after, I began performing in show after show after show. There are too many to list, but my highlights were headlining the performance line up of Midnight Mass (2024, Midnight Madness) and Fags “R” Us (2024, Fringe Festival on Gadigal Land). I am now the resident gorelesque artist of Queer Asian Performance Company Worship Queer Collective, having performed at their Burramattagal Pride Party (2024) and 2025 Lunar New Year Show SLITHER, where 梁 Jenny Leong MP even commented on my “skin-[peeling] burlesque performance”.
