adore anything that explores human love and relationships in their ugliest forms, the decay of the mind and body, love as an anchor and love as a mouth that bites and love as something that eats and heals.... have I mentioned love yet?
|
Music |
new wave, dark wave, some romantic goth, some glam rock, and a slew of Italian '60s through '90s music. David Bowie for president (and if he can't run, bring Mina with her man Celentano, they know what's up)
|
Movies |
basic I'm afraid... Interview with the Vampire (1994), The Neverending Story (1984), Nuovo Olimpo (2023), Queer (2024) and my watchlist is a disaster... I love '80s-'90s slasher horror, any horror movie that actually scares me (so far Incantation (2022) is the top contestant there) and I've got a terrible soft spot for queer tragedies
|
Television |
Hannibal, Interview with the Vampire, and tbf I don't watch lots of series

Books |
Frankenstein, The Picture of Dorian Gray, Maurice, Giovanni's Room, The Secret History, Carmilla, Dracula, These Violent Delights, Exquisite Corpse, White Nights, Notes from Underground, À Rebours, The Haunting of Hill House, The Tell-Tale Heart... and the list goes on, but then of course, above all, the Iliad and the Odyssey
|
Heroes |
Homer, if you existed, shoutout

Projects | ★ starting ancient Greek grammar for uni purposes (I'm aiming to get through hopefully the declensions and some basic verbal tenses this summer) ★ reading Marino's "Adone" (this counts as a project because that mf is over 2000 pages long) ★ planning a dnd horror oneshot for my party ★ getting through a decent portion of the tma ttrpg manual ★ finishing the magnus protocol podcast ★ continuing a silly billy horror story I started years ago (I might post about it on here soon) ★ drawing anatomy practice because God knows I need it if I want to make any progress ★ making some youtube videoessays with my lovely friend Ulisse whose profile I've linked (our first topic is going to be vampires and their inherent tie to queerness and love, then after that maybe the way the figure of Virgil has evolved through history and literature)

About me:
disastrously and incessantly a good old fashioned lover boy ★ find me in your local archive, I'm omnipresent so it won't be difficult (I wasn't there you say? must've been on a cig break) ★

Who I'd like to meet:
dead or alive?? I need to know what in sweet heaven Parmenides was smoking and what he meant when he decided he could reconcile the idea of "being" and "not being" with the concepts of light and darkness, because the fact that we don't have enough of his texts to be able to know haunts me
jokes aside friend me if you're into anything gothic, romantic, decadent, or if you love the world of Latin/ancient Greek !!

books everyone should let change their life:
★These Violent Delights by Micah Nemerever - what every queer young adult feels like when somebody finally loves them, wrapped up in moral crises
★Exquisite Corpse by Poppy Z. Brite - heavy-handed and poetic queer horror, a necrophile and a cannibal, alone and then together and then alone again
★Giovanni's Room by James Baldwin - down to earth, human and vulnerable, the story of love between a man who doesn't have the guts to stand by any of his own decisions and a man who is at the mercy of said gutless decisions
★La Divina Commedia by Dante Alighieri - timeless and awe-inspiring the way a single man could possibly gather that much knowledge in the span of a human lifetime, and guide himself and his readers through hell, purgatory and heaven along with their consciences
★Farenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury - a million people will tell you better than me why to read it, but within the first five pages of this book you will see why now more than ever it needs to be read
★Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro - cold and miserable narration for an equally miserable and gutting story about ethics and the possibility of human cloning
★La Belle Dame Sans Merci by John Keats - honourable mention because this is a ballad, not a book, but it's the poem that first left me bewitched by Keats' writing

I haven't read much of his work, what would you recommend?
by Leo; ; Report
as far as short poems go, I'd recommend "Hither, hither, love", "O blush not so", "I cry your mercy, pity, love", and "Think not of it, sweet one, so"; they're probably not universally considered his best works, but I'm a huge sucker for love poetry. as far as longer works go, I can't not recommend "Endymion". enjoy!!! also, do read up a little on his life, because ulterior context helps hugely to appreciate how gutting the emotional aspect of his poems is <33
