I love ur profile!!:O |
Very weird that we had similar stories. I'm kind of a medium writing size in character? When it comes to writing, I write a lot, but I kind of lack in the Roleplay department. I lack a little bit, buut it's worldbuilding... Can't pass that. Sucks that you got out of writing :( Getting an audience is hit or miss, I was at a low at a point I had to stop writing good end stories to get attention from the friends I was surrounding with. I only write either for worldbuilding or to calm down, so I don't really care much about audience anymore. I felt how you did, but I eventually just wrote stuff and became fine with keeping it to myself when I felt i didn't entirely like what I was putting down. Very funny that you stole your OC's identity. My main OC and my own name were the same for a good while...
I absolutely love when people go nuts with their OCs because I did toO! It's fun to see how you evolve with your taste, and even though I have a lot of graveyard OCs that I consider too cringeworthy to pick back up, that just meant I've just been able to create more funny people. Fantasy is fun because it opens up the gate for more dynamics if you play your cards right, plus working with Humans a lot kind of gets boring fast.
Feel free to drop your artist recommendations!!! It's fun trying new stuff because everybody is different, and in the end I end up finding myself a mix of a lot of people's tastes. My taste is a hybrid of stuff I found online, stuff I've heard about and stuff I already liked since I was young. I can't blame you for having a lesser known taste, it does make it hard to find shared songs, but it's really cool recognizing stuff in your area! I know about two country artists that are local to my area (iirc), but the province I live is so small of an area, I'm not comfortable sharing right now.
AJR's early stuff kinda sucks? I didn't like Neotheater, but OK ORCESTRA and The Maybe Man (TMM mention!!!!) were pretty good! The Maybe Man is a little better because OO has a few misses, but compared to the shit they usually get for their music, it was a great surprise! I think my favorite song was Ordinaryish People.
Good job on watching Bee and Puppycat backwards.
I've not gotten my hands on the ENA games yet, but want to (well, good thing there's piracy). I think I watched the early stuff and loved the idea, but couldn't actually sit down and watch the long stuff that came out recently. Character designs are really cool though, and the writing is okay. I have a habit of never picking anything up because I mostly connect with video games I'm familiar with and music I already have, so it's hard to pick up anything new at all, especially if it's a Movie. :(
It sucks that sometimes you end up only writing a lot when you're stressed out :( I had a week straight where I only wrote creatively without any OC involvement, so I get how it can feel like it's hard to write without making it about any one thing. I've scrapped a lot of stuff since I picked up a new writing program, but sometimes some ideas need to be reborn in a rework. Work at your own pace, however you want :)
I'm going to assume here you haven't seen the original Black ops game, so this will include a summary too -- careful of that.
Black Ops came out in 2010, themed around investigating and interrogating a sleeper agent for the CIA, who recalls what happened throughout his war career in the 50s to 60s, to figure out what a broadcast speaking nothing but numbers means, and where it came from. It's a military first person shooter, though what matters here is the plot.
Before every level in the singleplayer mode starts ("Campaign", which is basically the story part of the entire game that's obvious), you see 4 lines of details roughly explaining what happens in the mission, why you're there. Then, a lot of the details are redacted in black pen, leaving just 4 key details -- Where you are, the time of day (and date), your playable character's name (usually Alex Mason), and the name of the level, in quotes.
I took a similar approach to Black Ops by including details of the names of all present OCs (because it gets unclear, plus it helps me remember my own character's last names), the writing series (because I've had a lot of scattererd projects before), and sometimes, a little blurb if it's fitting. It's kind of like Black Ops, how it's written like a legal document, but it also kind of writes like it's being transcribed from a camera? Then it cuts to a first person perspective, the story begins, bla bla.
psst, you edit your display name here!

wait, so you forced yourself to write sad stuff to keep your friends entertained??? that sucks :( i think i know how that feels, but, on my end, part of the reasoning for my fucked up character backstories was simply usual 13-year-old edgyness. i still desperately miss my friends' interest in what i have to share sometimes. when i wasnt making ocs and worldbuilding, i used to write short stories in prose from time to time, posting them on spaces like wattpad and medium - _specially_ during pandemic.

/nsrs i used to listen to it ALLLL the time, it's probably one of my comfort albuns maybe. the click and i have like this deep emotional bond. Weak, Sober Up, Drama, Burn the House Down???? the 12-year-old gacha life kid in me ate these UP back in 2018. i also learned to love Bud Like You, Three-Thirty, Netflix Trip and The Good Part later in life. i think i'm so out of it i have never seen AJR getting any hate, what's up with that? anyways, come to think of it, i'm pretty sure i never listened to TMM in its entirety??? i must solve this later.
οΈ piracy βοΈ and the idea of just writing freely sounds really cool, i wanna try it now. what do you mean by writing program?
i totally get it, i sincerely can't remember the last time i made a human oc :p my little guys always must have some kind of fantasy element in them, it's an addiction. also i have a bunch of cringe ocs that i love to twist and reshape into cool new things. redesigns are fun!!! i also love making pinterest board for all of my writing projects, both for the character and the universes - it's another addiction i fear
i think all the artists i listed on my Music section are nice recs, but i definitely have a priority-specific order in my mind that can and will be changed depending on what genres you like most. dw abt sharing that, it's chill and i understand the not wanting to disclose info abt your location online. unfortunately on my end my people is made of oversharers and my city thinks it's the best in the world so we are loud about it. doxxed yes, non patriotic never /j
i LOVE Neoteather vro what are you on
i
i love the thing you just evoked in my head, i NEED to read this asap now. like omg uncommon writing styles like this are the best!!! stories being told as audio transcriptions, journal entries, newspaper cutouts, blacked out documents, halfheard conversations, sometimes all at these at once??? fuck yeah give me 100!!!
off topic: do you plan on going to college? i wanna try to maybe pursue a career in graphic design, but that would happen only so i could have some income to support my actual dream life job, which is writing and illustrating children's books!! idk how that'll go though

Yup
For a while I was okay with it, but by the time the group was reaching it's end, I was so sick and tired of being forced into drama in character all the time, I wanted out. It was so fucking annoying because when I did it on my own accord for my own plots, it felt overlooked or I had to dumb down what happened to my friends. But then I'd have to go along with my friend's fucked up no-good-end plot when I slip up even slightly, basically just being his personal amusement.
I occasionally write with real life in mind and not OCs occasionally, though it's just when I need to. Adding fantasy elements to every character is so real -- I love doing it. Abnormal traits here, hybrid people there, and a little bit of superhuman chaos every now and then. I didn't really feel comfortable posting publically, I usually just posted it in my friends' discord servers. I might consider posting about a character here on SpaceHey some time. Redesign often, it's good to have a little refresh!!!
Dependant on genres? I'd say it's mostly been Rock, Metal and Hip-Hop. I used to be absolutely in love in Rock, and while I still am, Hip-Hop has definitely become a new favorite genre to me. It sounds good, a lot of people have heard it by now, and it has the edginess that Rock always had, just a bit more accessible. I still hang onto old songs I've tried, of course :)
Patrioticism is fun until somebody sends a pizza to your house. /t
I think my dislike for Neotheatre came with expectations. Hearing the dislike people had for that album compared to later albums, it was bound I was going to not like it. Maybe if I sat down and listened with an open mind, I would actually like it? Though again, I paid attention to a specific song (can't name it off the top of my head unfortunately), heard the lyrics, and something kind of just didn't feel right. I normally ignore lyrics just fine, but it was strangely acapella?? So it was harder to ignore like I do any normal Kanye track.
Not coming to see the hate -- Maybe you're in all the right spaces? One of my friends had an AJR phase and was openly negative about it (he hated it and became a Kanye fan), and there's a lot of crap they got on RateYourMusic.com (my favorite music rating site! though they always have weird takes, so this is no surprise. It's crazy what people hate there for no reason), etc. Plus they are a "tiktok" band, so there's that stigma too, like with Drift Phonk.
GO LISTEN TO TMM IN IT'S FULLEST!!! IT WAS A FUN EXPERIENCE HAHA
Piracy <3
When it comes to writing, I have a specific program in mind for it. I'll write the story in that program, then share it over discord, etc when I'm done. It counts the words for me, lets me organize all my stories in folders, write notes about it, write a little summary of the plot, etc. It's great.
Seeming that you're interested in how I write the way I do, I could slide some examples and maybe cook something for you later??? Just hit me up when you're free, I'll drop you something. I experiment with my writing, I've tried a theatre transcript style originally, but the hybrid of blacked out document and first person perspective seemed great. Only thing I hate writing is Dialog with first person... I hate seeing "I said" so I get way too ambitious. It works against me, but also makes me look more professional. Perfectionist things.
Basically, let me know in an IM if you wanna see something, I'll cook ya something. Maybe a time to meet an OC?
Funny you mention college -- I was originally attending earlier this year a special program for transitioning into the real world. But a mix of complications like their incompetent taxi service they hired to get me (who won't drive up to my house, which caused so many issues and created frustration between my parents and I a lot), etc. I'm trying to figure out a backup plan for the summer.

that's so fucking weird dude, they really just wanted to see tragedies without caring to understand them when they got complex. they were just there for the shock factor it seems. i'm so sorry you had to experience that, truly.
i see your fear of posting publically and i raise you: more often than not, quietly posting it online gets your work to be less seen and analyzed than if you posted it somewhere close to people (like gcs), so maybe i too felt like you, but in a different font. but pls do start posting if you feel like it, i would love to read your writings!!
i never really god into hip-hop, but i do think it's very cool. most of my music tastes may clash with yours, but we can make it work. i hope i get pizza from magic person from the internet
you probably heard to Next Up Forever or Finale, and yeah, they're not my favorites from the album. still think they r cool tho. there's something quite comforting about the way AJR sings abt early adulthood and being trapped between being young and being old and stuff. they get it. they see it. i need to listen to more drift phonk it's so interesting to me
i never listened to kanye and every new thing i learn about him usually is some random fucking shit like a photo of himself in a kkk suit or him selling swastica merch what is that man on
yes king i'll eat your art hand it over π«΄ i'm a perfectionist too and this is so real. it's been so long since i last wrote first-person perspective, but it's quite comforting to me because i got that from the percy jackson books so the nostalgia always hits with every "i" and "me" i write. i'll IM you yes!!
what a weird thing they did. i hope you find an effective backup plan!!! im quite scared of that transition myself lol

Nitrous. Kanye is on Nitrous. Listen exclusively when you sail the seas, support leakers. I'll explain that more later, send an IM if you need resources (or just want more of what I do?)
Yeah, they only really cared about the thrill or drama it seemed. They also focused a lot on Combat Roleplay, something I hate when it's not properly planned and scripted. I even outright said I want a plan, but then even when it's planned, same dude made really unfair fight scenarios. I had to buff my main OC to stay alive, really. It was childish.
But then again, it got somebody to read what I like to post. I'm worried about the cringe factor now and it takes me a bit to actually drop what I make, but that's just what came of it all. I'm worried about what comes. I will always blame my friends for that.
If I ever do anything creative writing that's not specifically to vent, I'll think about posting it on my blog.
I wasn't really into hip-hop deeply either, the most I listened to when I was still finding my taste was like, Eminem. Unfortunately, the tides turned and I obsess over Kanye's work, out or not. Rock still takes a front seat, though not as much.
I do look at artists like Tyler the Creator, Frank Ocean and Childish Gambino like a lot of obsessed people like, and while I think their music is still good, I don't really like it the way I like early Kanye stuff. Even Eminem, who I used to listen a lot of, I'm finding I'm listening to Kanye more.
I probably did hear Next Up Forever, I'm not sure. I know it 100% wasn't a closer, so it couldn't have been Finale. AJR Lyrics on OK ORCHESTRA and The Maybe Man were honestly fine, so I don't know why Neotheatre is such a dislike. Again, I'll have to listen when I have the reviews and stuff out of my head. Maybe it was expectactions holding me back.
If you're on TikTok, you'll find plenty of Drift Phonk there. But in the case you never find any good songs, try KSLV Nov, MoonDeity, ARIIS and Odetari. They'll be a good window if you especially use TikTok, though outside of that, I don't have much advice. Try listening to those for a while and look for what Spotify recommends you?
Unfortunately, Kanye has completely gone off the deep end. He's a crack addict on Nitrous now, his work slowly declines in quality. WW3 and Cousins are wastes of energy. WW3 is an okay beat, but I don't really like Cousins' beat. Plus, the AI use and the vocals are horrendous. If you get into him, get off your streaming service and do not start newest first. Start at The College Dropout, and if you think it was fine, feel free to ascend his discography. Do it chronologically or you'll land on a Vultures 2 song and hate him pretty fast. :P
God, his Autism excuse is bullshit, it's very obviously the Bipolar swings, but he keeps yapping.
