Movies |
I've always had a deep love for cinema, whether it's a drama that pulls at my heart, a psychological thriller that keeps me on edge, or anything in between. My heart skips a beat for movies like Sense and Sensibility (1995), Truly, Madly, Deeply (1990), Mesmer (1994), Close My Eyes (1991), The Search for John Gissing (2001), Die Hard (1988), Bob Roberts (1992), Love Actually (2003), Snow Cake (2006), Judas Kiss (1998), Nobel Son (2007), Gambit (2012), The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (2005), Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991), Dark Harbor (1998), Blow Dry (2001), Closet Land (1991), Dogma (1999), Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007), A Little Chaos (2014). These are just some of my absolute favorites - I could go on forever. Yes, I definitely know my classics. Also, I will NEVER say no to a Harry Potter marathon.
There are plenty more that I've loved: Corpse Bride (2005), Blue Velvet (1986), Mulholland Drive (2001), The Short Films of David Lynch (2002), Twilight Saga, The First Wives Club (1996), Annie Hall (1977), The Great Gatsby (2013), Pride and Prejudice (1995) & (2005), Emma (2020), Austenland (2013), The Hunt (2012), Polar (2019), A Royal Affair (2012), Jane Eyre (2011), Little Women (1994) & (2019), Patrick (2018), The Secret Garden (2020), The Queens Gambit (2020), Pygmalion (1938), Ball of Fire (1941), The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993), Edward Scissorhands (1990), Django Unchained (2012), Dead Poets Society (1989), Red Eye (2005), and many many others. I used to be obsessed with horror, but at this point, my tastes have shifted, either I watched too many (obviously), or I'm just getting old. Probably both..

Television |
While I'm not really into watching TV shows all the time, when I do, I enjoy a good mix of mystery, crime, and a bit of the surreal. I have a soft spot for murder mysteries - shows like Death in Paradise, Bones, Moonlighting, and The Little Murders of Agatha Christie always hit the spot with their mix of detective work, humor, and charm. I also like The X-Files and Twin Peaks - both are a little weird in the best way, with strange cases, eerie vibes, and just enough mystery to keep me curious. Beyond that, I enjoy diving into the intense, gripping worlds of The Walking Dead and the psychological brilliance of Hannibal. Every now and then, I might get hooked on classics like Breaking Bad and its spin-off Better Call Saul. And of course, I love rewatching Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Friends for their timeless comedy and comfort

Books |
When I read, I look for books that immerse me just like a great film. I've always loved Jane Austen - her wit and elegance never fail to charm me. Sense and Sensibility holds a special place in my heart, but I also adore Pride and Prejudice and her other works. Right alongside with the classics, another world that shaped me just as strongly was the wizarding world of Harry Potter. it has been with me for as long as I can remember - comforting, magical, and full of wonder. those stories feel like a piece of my childhood I'm still carrying with me; something that still inspires me and makes me feel at home. There's also something timelessly human in Ray Bradbury's writing that has always stayed with me. His writing is lyrical, nostalgic, and achingly human. Dandelion Wine felt like summer bottled up in words - a tender, poetic exploration of youth, memory, and the bittersweet beauty of ordinary life. On the other hand, Fahrenheit 451 left a lasting impression on me - a chilling and poetic warning about censorship, conformity, and the loss of critical thought. It burns bright with meaning (no pun intended… or maybe just a little). Right alongside him, I can't not mention Douglas Adams - his The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is pure genius, brilliant in the most effortlessly absurd way. It's clever, irreverent, and surprisingly thoughtful beneath all the silliness; It never fails to lift my mood. As for classic literature again, Pygmalion by Bernard Shaw really stuck with me - sharp, witty, and full of fascinating social commentary. And Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë once caught my eye with its deep emotions and hauntingly beautiful storytelling. I've also been drawn to Shakespeare's Hamlet - intense, poetic, and full of moral tension. And Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray; darkly elegant, a bit twisted, and impossible to forget. Shifting gears a bit, I also enjoy stories that dive into darker, more intense themes; The Silence of the Lambs by Thomas Harris is a gripping psychological thriller that kept me on edge from start to finish. Twin Peaks: The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer by Jennifer Lynch adds an even darker layer to the show's world, making it an unforgettable read. And Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy is a brutal yet philosophical journey through the violent reality of the Wild West - harsh, unsettling, but undeniably powerful.

Heroes |
Alan Rickman. He wasn't just an actor; he was a storyteller in every sense of the word. Every role he took on, no matter how big or small, was infused with a depth that made his characters unforgettable. Whether it's the quiet depth of Colonel Brandon, the tender soul of Jamie, or the haunting complexity of Sinclair Bryant… Alan had a way of making you see the humanity in every person he portrayed.
What set Alan apart wasn't just his unmatched talent, but the way he approached life itself. Off-screen, he seemed to embody the traits that make a person truly admirable: kindness, wit, and a grounded sense of humility. He had a rare ability to make everyone feel seen, valued, and inspired. Deeply passionate about the arts, Alan championed creativity in all its forms, supporting new talents and embracing the beautiful messiness of storytelling. He understood that art wasn't just a profession, it was a lifeline, a way to connect, express, and make sense of the world.
When I think of Alan, I don't just think of the legendary actor who gave life to some of the most memorable characters in cinema. I think of the man who carried himself with grace, humor, and unwavering dedication to his craft. He was someone who could light up a room with his mischievous smile, or captivate an audience with a single glance. There's a duality to Alan that I find endlessly inspiring - the ability to be both extraordinary and deeply human, to balance profound wisdom with playful silliness.
Alan Rickman reminds me that life is about more than accolades or fame. It's about the connections we build, the kindness we show, and the authenticity we bring to everything we do. He didn't just leave a mark on the world, he left a piece of himself in the hearts of those who admired him. To me, he's not just a hero of the screen but a living example of what it means to lead a meaningful, authentic life. Alan showed us all that you don't have to shout to be heard, or grandstand to make an impact. Sometimes, the quietest voices echo the loudest. He was the kind of man who made you believe in goodness - not just through the characters he played but through the way he lived his life. He had this rare, almost otherworldly ability to make the world feel a little brighter, a little kinder, just by being in it. You could see it in the way he spoke with such thoughtfulness, the way he carried himself with quiet dignity, and the way he always seemed to have time for others, no matter how busy or celebrated he became.
There was something so deeply human about Alan - this unshakable sense that he truly cared. He cared about the stories he told, the people he worked with, and the world around him. You can't fake that kind of sincerity. It's something rare, and it's something that made him stand out in a way few people ever do. He wasn't just talented; he was good. Truly, deeply good in a way that makes me wish there were more people like him in the world.
Even though he's gone, the impact Alan Rickman had on me, and so many others still lingers. His performances, his words, and the way he carried himself continue to inspire me to be better, to approach life with thoughtfulness and care. He had a way of making the world feel a little more meaningful, and that feeling hasn't faded with time.
It's remarkable how someone I never met could leave such a lasting impression. That's the kind of person Alan Rickman was - someone whose presence went beyond the screen, reaching into people's hearts and leaving them changed for the better. He wasn't just an actor; he was a reminder of what it means to live with integrity, creativity, and kindness.

About me:
Greetings, my name is Ashley. I'm a graphic designer and artist. I was an editor for a long time, but I chose to step back for the sake of my sanity and I'm no longer working on those... I’m also a lethargic linguist, so please, don’t lose your composure because unfortunately, English isn't my first language. I hope this doesn't throw you off, bear with me, and you'll manage to endure my complaints. However, when sudden inspiration strikes, I might become a dramatic, poetic soul! On the other hand, sometimes I’m a part-time translator, though it usually happens unwillingly, as lately I prefer to be a dignified thesaurus. Basically, I wear a lot of hats, often shifting between roles.
I'm not hyperactive here, but I'm trying my best to interact with bulletins of my closest and dearest friends who deserve as much support as I can provide. So if I seem quiet, just know I'm probably off working on my next big thing… or maybe just sitting somewhere, lost in thought, wondering if I should order something delicious...
And don't let the serious intro fool you, I'm a certified goofball when I'm comfortable! If you stick around long enough, you'll probably catch me making dumb jokes, laughing at my own puns, or quoting random lines from movies, books, or whatever else gets stuck in my head like it's a second language
That's pretty much it. Thanks for stopping by.
