General

ello, i like to play my pirated copy of minecraft, sometimes ps2 games too, taking photos, walking, making my website and learning to code.

Music

i love music, and i am almost always listening to something.
i like expanding my music taste so i'd love to meet people with different tastes in music as well or just talk about it in general and share music.
this'll mostly be a list of my fav artists\bands\albums (i apologise for how badly formatted this is):

neon indian, those dnb mixes on yt (firewalker, dedeco) silent hill, aldous harding, tomoko aran, a moon shaped pool, purple rain, al green, macroblank, we're not here to be loved, coastal grooves, minecraft, risk of rain 2( i want to become an antarctic oscillation), firewatch, sling, tron legacy, damien jurado, fleetwood mac, frank ocean, kensington blues, grace, chromakopia, cocooning, floral shoppe, whats going on, thriller, skiptracing, premonitions, sade, silk sonic, steve hiett, stevie wonder, sza, blood, kaki king, robbie basho, blade runner, yves tumor, pink floyd, black sabbath, tomoko aran

lotr trilogy, blade runner, tron legacy, the matrix, incendies, little shop of horrors, nightmare before christmas, truman show, eternal sunshine, no country for old men, memento, donnie darko, fight club, edward scissorhands, howls moving castle and MOONLIGHT (this movie is everything to me)

Television

similar to movies, i don't watch a lot of tv anymore but i'm grateful for what i have seen. amongst the shows i like are a couple yt channels that are special to me.
anyway, here's my list:

evangelion, breaking bad, arcane, adventure time, batman animated, avatar the last airbender, coryxkenshin, smiling friends, tom and jerry, pink panther, regular show, impractical jokers, key and peele

About me:

i stay up far later than what's good for me.

i'm kinda boring, I just sit around and listen to music most of the time. i also swim (i suck)

i'm in love with the ocean, and by that i mean i have a surface level knowledge about it and have seriously considered studying marine biology once or twice in the past.

i'm on here because this feels like a more "real" way to connect with people on the internet than most other places, and because i have no friends irl.

i really enjoy having conversations with anyone willing, although i must admit i'm still learning how to hold one beyond asking questions.

take a look at my last.fm if you wanna know what i'm listening to :)

Who I'd like to meet:

anyone who wants to talk

i prefer talking to people 17+

yoo thanks for adding me:) I was surprised to see someone 18 here. I've been looking through so much profiles to see they're in junior hs...

this is a pretty cool profile btw! would be hard to think you don't have irl friends as u said in the bio. I struggle with socializing as well, a fuck ton, but you genuinely seem like a cooler person to talk to. I'm curious why you added me, I don't have that many interests I'm passionate about lol

your music taste seems cool too. I always want to know more genres, more artists, more albums, but don't really know the proper..? way to expand my taste. with new music I either play it for days, or forget about it, or forget I'm even trying to get into it when distracted. I tried to listen to a Yves Tumor album but forgot about it. what album would you recommend for a first time listener?

heyy, thanks! i love your profile. i added you cause i love the shark aesthetic lol. i don't have any shark facts except that they're cute little guys but my current fav animal is the lampocteis. a deep sea ctenophore, it's red so as to hide it's bioluminescent prey in it's tummy. red is invisible that deep. and it looks so trippy when it moves.

i don't have friends cause i don't get out on account of online school. hopefully that'll change soon though. besides that i do struggle with socializing, my anxiety goes through the roof. people my age are a lot more difficult to talk to than adults, cause i have less experience with them.

i get you, immersing myself in new music is hard. like you said i either get obsessed and drop it or don't get into it at all. i find that it works best when it's a natural process. don't force it and take it slow. idk that's probably bad advice. i don't have much experience with yves tumor, i liked a feature he did with joji on nectar and then i listened to a couple of his songs and his latest album. i like it but it hasn't made itself into my regular rotation cause i'm pretty stubborn lol. i listen to it when i want something different to my usual stuff and that helps me get more familiar with it, eventually i should play it more.

uhhh i dunno if any of that helps i was just rambling.

also, i had to add an atla enjoyer ofc, i also like the first fiona apple album. reminds me of grace by jeff buckley, you heard it?

Cool to see another macroblank fan on here, I have a few vinyl and cassettes of his stuff

hey, likewise. his mixes are soo good for studying, it's like one of the few things that can put me in a semi-focused state lol. that's rad, i hope to build a bit of a physical collection at some point. i remember trying to order some random cassette player once when i was like 14, but lost the bid cause i overslept :')

your music setup looks awesome, bet it sounds crazy. how would you compare it to just headphones? do you get a lot of the stuff second-hand or new?

i enjoyed reading your blog on the alpenflage. very informative, and you can really see how effective the camo is in the pic you provided. i'll be honest i don't know much about the military or gear. do you have old guns or knives in your collection too?

i dig your music taste but don't recognize your top 30 besides maybe pinegrove, i'm excited to listen to it! i'll probably find a new artist to put on repeat lol.

your guide to make cassettes is awesome, refueled my need for a walkman :D
if i get one, i'll refer back to it.

Physical collections are great if you’ve got equipment to play em. As for mine, I always buy my stuff used. A lot of the vintage stuff is better considering that most of the world at that point in time was more geared towards those old mediums, so you have to buy those used. For example, the large speakers from the 70’s and are literally impossible to find unused. That being said, they sound great! Larger speakers with several different cones (ie. bullet tweeters, midrange speakers, the horn, and a subwoofer,) tend to sound better to me than headphones, which have (in my opinion) a bit of a more limited range.

I do like headphones, and I have a pair of koss headphones for my Walkman, but if I had to pick I’d choose large speakers every time. Speaking of Walkman, thanks for looking at my Blog about cassettes! It’s really fun to just take a playlist from Spotify or whatever and throw it on a tape to play. Cassettes don’t sound as good as digital simply due to the method of audio storage, but for novelty and that nostalgia factor they are great, I love em.

As for the milsurp, no, I don’t have surplus guns and I don’t have surplus knives for three reasons. 1. Guns are expensive and you need all sorts of paperwork filled that I can’t be bothered with, and 2. I don’t have the space for guns OR knives. I live in a little apartment right now, and it’s just not practical to collect such things till I buy a home myself. Finally, 3. I don’t have the money. I’m in college working a fast food job until I get into the military, and for now it’s simply not viable to keep up a firearm collection, milsurp clothing collection, knife collection, and my music collection, so I gotta stick to the two I’m focused on now.

yeah i also think speakers have greater range. and i prefer the way the sound bounces around the room, it almost colours a space. and headphones isolate you in a way speakers dont. i have experience buying stuff used, i had to look a few places to find a good crt tv. i kind of like the hunt though, when you find the right listing it feels great.

yeah i have a thing for walkmans, the buttons, handling of cassettes and the physicality of it tingles my brain. what walkman do you have? i've found them to be very expensive, or hard to find depending on the model.

ah i see, that makes sense. collections are expensive, and space is def an issue. while not directly related i know my ps2 setup takes up a good portion of my drawer and desk space.

also, sorry to hear about your medical issue. i hope you can sort it out with a waiver. why do you want to join the military if you don't mind me asking?

and good luck with college, and the military. what are you studying?

by feotrs; ; Report

I agree with your point about the speakers. If I had enough of them I could set up a surround sound system in my room, but that's a lot of work for how much I move. My amp does have an audio port for hooking up my system to a TV for audio, but that requires getting a TV, which of course requires that I have anything I'd be interested in watching, haha.

As for the Walkman, I have two! I have a WM-FX321 for parts and then a working WM-FX117 that was a gift from my wonderful partner. It works great! It's nice having spare parts on hand too due to the delicate nature of a lot of the plastic parts that sit under the deck. I also have a pair of Koss PortaPro headphones made for walkmans, but a modern-built one. Koss still makes the same headphones all these years later; it was an obvious choice.

As for the military, I've always been interested in serving. I originally wanted to be a Navy Corpsman, but I was talked out due to the risk factor. While doing some research, I discovered that I could work as an intelligence analyst, which greatly interested me. I've only just started getting into Geographical and Geospatial Statistics, but it all seems very interesting to me and I could see myself building a career out of it. The second reason I plan on joining is because life is expensive and jobs aren't always guaranteed. Having that kind of job security in a field I'm interested in is greatly reassuring, and the benefits of my education are STAGGERING. While I am in the national guard I will have to be present for exercises and training 2 consecutive days a month and 2 consecutive weeks a summer. In the time I'm not doing exercises, I could be at home, working, or in college. I plan to attend university. The benefits regarding education include rent, tuition fees, andthe price of living when it comes to raw monetary benefits (as in, these don't include the benefits towards home loans, savings, credit, and insurance). From my rough calculation, these benefits total roughly 22,000 USD of tax-free benefits a year for my entire time at university (6 years) which is not taken from the modest 35,000 USD salary I will be making while enlisted. This will allow me to save better for a home and car as well as secure better housing for those I love. All in all, the combination of benefits, job security, the honor of serving, and the pursuit of a career I can be happy with are what push me to serve.

As for my current college status, I'm studying for two degrees: an AAT in Global Studies and an AA in Social/Behavioral Sciences. I believe having two degrees under my belt which are geared towards understanding people, policy, politics, international relations, and more are fantastic options as a start towards a career in the military and government, and with the aid of the military, I will be able to afford both a bachelors and masters degree, two things which I would never be able to afford without this job opportunity. This semester, Spring of 2025, will be my graduating semester for the AA and AAT, and after that, I ship off to train for 26 weeks. Honestly, I couldn't be more excited.

hey ! well i think the main thing is that i'm also interested in music players and piracy, i can relate to your experience moving from yt downloaders onto other methods, though i have to say you sound much more experienced haha. i used to listen to most of my music from my mp3 library but unfortunately i'd need more storage than i have to download the stuff i listen to now on streaming services. i wish i could get my hands on a good quality mp3 player to separate storage use but those are super expensive, at least where i live so it'll be a while lol.

i was delighted to see someone else uses everything for windows. i'm only on windows for gaming otherwise i'm on linux but it's a really helpful tool for pulling up the ds4windows exe lol cause windows can't find it for some reason.

i agree with piracy being preservation, i remember i downloaded some awesome fan made extended remixes of songs i loved from a particular artist and when i looked up those videos on yt recently they were taken down, i'm glad i still have them. anyway that's just a random example.

i also relate to web preservation, i love looking at old websites on the wayback machine to get inspiration for my own.

i have also had lots of fun producing instrumental music but that was more unfinished experimentation and playing with vst's than anything else, i'd love to hear your stuff on yt.

i saw we share a taste in videogames, namely dishonored, minecraft, half life, portal and fnv. i used to have a heavily modded save of fnv that i miss very much, that game really feels like a portal to another world. i've always wanted to try spt tarkov but my pc isn't powerful enough :)

anyway i guess i just found your profile interesting and i admire the effort you put into it.

by feotrs; ; Report

woahhh, that's a long response! i expected something short and simple haha
these things probably could have been listed on your profile because i had no idea but this is really cool!

yeah i'm basically surrounded by people familiar with it, i'm around people into leaked music (sometimes you have about 10 minutes to download a single file from spotify before it's taken down because some music releases accidently) and music piracy. i learnt through the internet ways to download from deezer and from there i just literally handle everything on my own, i've downloaded music for friends before and the rest is history :D

it seems you still download from yt occasionally, sounds like you might want to try cobalt tools. if you get a 0 byte file, try again and if you get a opus file, rename it to .webm or you can't set metadata and/or might not play :D

i'm ngl mp3 sucks, if your hardware supports another format, i would have used it already, you can save some storage by changing. but maybe don't convert the mp3 itself, you lose quality and anybody on soulseek will rip your ass open for that
sorry to hear about player prices :( hopefully you get something good! i wanted to see what rockbox looks on an ipod for a while but it's not a big interest

yeah for some reason the hacks i use are uncommon to find users for? i pull up everything, wait for indexing and just immediately type obscure filenames i need. i don't trust windows search for shit and need ways to avoid using windows for tasks. explorer is horridly unstable, a hard drive should not be a booting os, ever. but here we are :p

preservation in general is important and i love a lot of it because a lot of work is needed to keep it alive. the internet archive has to work full time to keep a whole web archive up of great websites that nobody might remember. pirates have to work hard to risk emails to torrent games that aren't buyable anymore except maybe expensive ebay copies that aren't worth it. not to mention it's great to look back on the old web if you remember an old site :D

if you're on discord, maybe you'd be interested if i could send you demos? all i have up on yt right now is the debut of my experimental project heart melatonin, which isn't what i usually make. i make way more but i need to finish a rework of my last project before it goes up, and i'm unsure if i want to put the rest up just yet. stuff happened a while back and it had to go down but it'll probably go back up soon enough... always working on new stuff :P
i need to try a vst but i have no idea what i'm doing or what daw to go to, i don't even technically use a daw but considering using one for mixing because mixing on the tool i'm using is kind of shit and basic. can't afford anything yet

fnv!!!! i hate modding it but i love playing it and always let it sit in the dust in the end, it's genuinely great and i love the random mods people came up for it, from fo3 compatibility to randomizing each door. i need to get back into it! missing my sprinting mod. minecraft is solid too, used to play obsessively for a while! spt tarkov is honestly okay but i think i ended up not liking tarkov's gameplay so i dropped the copy i had on me, so i can't help you out finding it because i struggled to find it myself... aghh

thanks for the kind word on the profile! i wanted it to be in detail so people would read it and at least find something in common... would rather overshare interests that might not matter than miss interests in common

by lydia (blog archive); ; Report

wow i never knew about leaked music on spotify, that's really cool. so you can grab official albums/songs that aren't released yet?

i learnt to pirate mainly through my uncle lol so my knowledge may be a bit outdated, i mostly download mp3's from deezer since i don't need the rarer albums on soulseek (for now). i want to start sharing stuff but it would be a nightmare to organise my mp3 library for sharing since i decided it was a wise idea to just toss all my tracks into one folder unorganised when i was younger, ugh.

i only download from yt when it's user created stuff that isn't like a real release. cobalt tools seems useful for when i need to do that, thanks for the tips! i usually use seal but i think thats mobile only, might be wrong. otherwise i find what i can't elsewhere in random places, admittedly soulseek would be useful for this but i'll have to build a library of files anew with proper organisation to share first.

im completely oblivious to the faults of mp3, i have some flac albums but they take up too much space and my headphones probably cant produce a difference in quality. what other file types do you recommend? and yeah converting files is a no no lol.

rockbox looks cool, but i think ipods are pretty hard to come by and will probably be in bad condition. this has motivated me to go on a hunt to see what mp3 players are out there lol, i love spending hours researching to find the best thing for the best price, its like treasure hunting.

yeah windows is ass, but my computer is old af (imac from 2013) so unfortunately it has the best hardware support and i cant use proton for gaming :( i have to edit photos on windows too, and linux has an issue where it makes my video files bug out for a few seconds so watching movies is sucky.

i have so much respect for the internet archive and pirates, i pirate cause i have no money lol but they make sure literal history doesn't just disappear with no trace. it sucks that they get hacked and sued, shitty world we live in sometimes.

id love to hear your demos, my discord is @lampocteisteno
hell in december really stood out to me, i love the quiet but brooding atmosphere it creates, sounds like it could 100% be in a silent hill soundtrack.
not responding was also great, another silent hill-esque track
i honestly just pirated ableton live because it has a lot of vst's and i couldnt imagine spending that much money unless i was a professional, great daw for everything i found.

i relate, fnv was a huge pain to mod but the viva new vegas guide layed most of it out perfectly, i just added some animation mods afterward. it was easy but very time consuming, and mod order can really srew you over if you have hundreds of mods and you dont know what youre doing like me. like you said though, incredible game, super immersive. minecraft is the only game i have on linux and it really is great with mods or without so its good to have around when you need it. ugh and the soundtracks by c418, masterpieces. tarkov is really slow from what ive heard, and overbearingly realistic at times. i just like it cause the guns look like they feel good to shoot lol.

i'll probably add more in depth detail about myself in the future as i work on my profile. in fact, my profile was fairly bare until i saw yours with all your writing and it inspired me to fill mine out a bit, so thanks i guess haha.

anyway, sorry for the late response, i tend to wait a while before replying to long messages so i can absorb it and think of what to say.
