General

Being a child of Orlando, I’m very fond of theme parks, particularly roller coasters. I realize every other lifetime Orlando resident claims to hate the theme parks, but that’s just not a level of edgy I have in me. 

A particular childhood aspiration that stands out is I wanted to write a book so good it was made into a movie, and film the book’s movie so good it was made into a theme park ride or even a whole area, like Seuss Landing. That would still be cool, but I have yet to write a theme park ride genre book, and I recognize that the book-movie-theme park ride sequence is often less a matter of goodness than marketability (Dr.Seuss had both qualities!), and not many authors end up directing their book’s films, so I wouldn’t call this a goal I’m actively pursuing so much as a cool thought. 

Music

Favorite musicians include Queen, Metallica, Rammstein, Lady Gaga, Kesha, Twenty One Pilots, Lil Nas X, Steam Powered Giraffe, and Loose Bearings. 

When not in a specifically pop/pop-adjacent mood (some of the artists listed above), I tend more towards metal and metal adjacent: I’m also into Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Dio, Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Korn, System Of A Down, Primus, Ghost, Vision Video, and TX2, but my knowledge of their discography isn’t as encyclopedic as my knowledge of Queen or Metallica or Rammstein. My first favorite metal/metal-adjacent band was Evanescence, back when I was 12 lol. Also, The Toxhards are pretty cool. 

Movies

Favorite filmmakers include Guillermo Del Toro, Richard Bates Jr, Quentin Tarantino, The Cohen Brothers, Wes Anderson, Mel Brooks, Jordan Peele, Greta Gerwig, and Dylan Crumpler. 

A few particular favorite films include Excision (psychological horror film by Richard Bates Jr, not the concert film), Pan’s Labyrinth, Little Miss Sunshine, Juno, The Mummy 1999, Young Frankenstein, Inglorious Basterds, Django Unchained, Grand Budapest Hotel, Everything Everywhere All At Once, Black Swan, Mulan (the animated one), the Matrix series, Vertigo, Terminator 2, maybe I’ll add more to this but wow I meant to keep that brief and I really didn’t. 

By the way, I have a film degree lol. 

Television

Breaking Bad is the best thing that’s ever been on television and that’s all there is to say. 

…Okay, well, I also really like Stranger Things (especially season 1 and 4). And I used to be into My Little Pony, it was cute. And from my childhood, Sonic SatAM was really great, it was basically Terminator for kids. The old Pokémon show was cool too! And my fiancé finally got me to watch Avatar The Last Airbender recently, that was great. 

Books

Favorite authors include John Green, Rainbow Rowell, Laurie Halse Anderson, Nagata Kabi, Arina Tanemura, Jared Singer, Rachel Wiley, Blythe Baird, Ollie Schminkey, and Mayday Trippe.

I’ve got a really big pile of books to read, so expect me to add more over time, and expect me to start putting out book reviews that speak for themselves soon.

The instant it becomes socially acceptable for authors to admit to reading fanfiction, I’ll have some recommendations there too lol.
