I’m about 2/3 through (I don’t read much), my main take away is that the government is not there to serve and protect you, it’s there to keep the status quo and preserve its longevity. Sounds morbid but the novel is more relevant now that it was at its conception.

the frankness of the writing in tht regard was super nice tho i think as a modern (semi?)political reader the book felt too much like a long sermon rallying against totalitarian govt at times and orwell couldve just done away w the narrative. i guess for me what stood out is how language is used by those in power to minimize even the capacity for thought. i think i notice that a lot of how that occurs today happens among groups of people who try to deny/dilute the meaning of a word when it in fact describes a very specific and serious relationship/condition. the word then achieves a sort of generality that it shouldn't have and makes discussions quite silly. hmm i also liked the dustiness of the world a lot,, i felt almost grimy reading it

yeah i agree, at times it seems like they are purposefully under educating the masses to keep them from knowing that there is better options for the. Its all work more, earn less and be happier about it.
