Me as a Reader in 1301: I would not call myself a reader whatsoever, I dislike reading so much. I do not like reading at all, I would rather listen to the movie or video version. If I’m going to be so honest I have not been reading the texts from class besides when we go over them all together. I believe reading is important and has value just not to me personally.

Me as a Writer in 1301: I’m okay at writing, but it takes a while for me to gain the motivation to write. I do not like writing, but I ultimately cannot avoid it. I dislike writing essays with passion, especially when there is word counts involved. Writing in this class has been somewhat easier than other classes I’ve had just because the prompts are very direct and not too wordy. I do not think that writing is limited to just text, there's many ways to write like billboards, captions, signs, ads, etc. I do believe that writing has value because we use it literally every day.

Me as a Student in 1301: This aspect of being a student impacts others because we ultimately better ourselves in the sense of how we communicate. As far as impacting my major, beliefs, and being a student, I would say that it does because I’m hoping to be able to write better and learn more which will help me with all these aspects. So far in the class, I've had a good time, I like that the class is somewhat engaging and has been "fun". I would say all my experiences so far have been positive! I mostly sit with my friends in the front of the class and usually get help from them if needed.

My Future Major: My major would be Veterinary Science or something in Biology. I chose this major because since I was young, I’ve always loved being around animals and being able to take care of them. This major ties to my career/life aspirations to become a veterinary technician. It has always been my dream to become something in the veterinary field. Classes that pertain to my major mostly are science/math related, however I do believe that English 1301 can help me gain better communication/writing skills. My major tends to attract mostly people who have strengths in STEM. However, my major is mostly dominated by females. As for the types of races and backgrounds, veterinary science fields tend to have fewer than 5% people of color, and usually represented by the “privileged”.

Me Inside of UTRGV: As for classes I am taking this year (I didn’t choose them) I am taking Biology, English, Special Topics in Social Studies (History), and Pre-Calculus. I have two classes per day, so Mondays/Wednesdays I have Pre-Calculus from 9:30-10:45 and then from 2:00-3:15 I have History, on Tuesdays/Thursdays I have Biology in the morning and English in the afternoon and Fridays I have Math lab from 9:30-10:25 and Biology lab from 10:45-1:15. For the most part I have found my classes okay, they’re not hard but they’re not easy either. I am not involved in any other activities on campus; however, I would like to join the Art Club on campus next year. I would say my classes interfere with my personal schedule in the sense that I would like my mornings to be free rather than have a 9:30 class. There have been several times when I do want to leave class early to go do other things or just work on other classes. Some ways I've gotten over these issues are by managing my time based off my schedule and communicating with my professors if I really need to miss class. As well as being with a group of friends that are COMMITTED to being academic weapons helps A LOT!

Me Outside of UTRGV: I believe that I am not the best student out there, I tend to procrastinate a lot (for no reason too?) and I don’t learn schoolwork as fast as I can pick up a new hobby. Some visions I have for myself from here until I graduate from UTRGV (with an associate) would be to become a better student, learn how to time manage, and stop procrastinating as much. My beliefs impact this in the way that to change what I believe I must act upon it. My culture impacts who I am as a student because growing up I was always reminded by my parents (who did not necessarily have the time to focus on school) that school was the most important thing and to “become somebody” you had to have a degree. I think also many Hispanic parents tend to always be on top of you about grades and homework at least that’s how it was for me. My hobbies impacted me as a student because I learned to have patience and to continue practicing more because of crocheting. When I first picked up the hobby I was not as good as I am at doing it now and I learned that everything takes time to achieve.
