Toby's Blurbs

About me:

•Lvl 42 •Xennial •Stuck in the 2006-2011 MySpace era! Loved MySpace. You could make friends with a totally different feel to Facebook. Pre smartphones, pre constant social media... Let's hope this takes off and we can still live those times!!

Who I'd like to meet:

Cool people. The world is small. I work with several Asian style arcades in the UK, we import and set up Japanese games like DDR, Taiko (drumming game), Groove Coaster, Street Fighter etc. So anything gaming is cool. Always loved the social side of it. Face to face.

Late reply! Summer was great but no travel abroad sucks. Hope you're ready to have a great Christmas.

by Toby; ; Report

It's all good, it's better late than never! I totally hear you on not being able to travel abroad, that really does suck. I'm planning to go to Munich in Germany next spring, hope Covid doesn't screw it up *fingers crossded*.

I'm ready for the holidays, will be having a Christmas party get-together with some relatives tomorrow so that's gonna be nice :)

Hey! Good thanks!
I haven't checked my page for a while.
Guess the initial nostalgia/excitement wore off nooooo

I've been prepping the arcade I work at for reopening (everything is still closed here in England!). Can't wait to travel once lockdown is over. How about you?

I don't remember much, it was 1984 and I was 4 lol

But I went back a lot and the town market was run down, station area bit of a dump, generally grimy and not that progressive, it changed a lot starting in the late 1990s I think.

Used to play a lot of Street Fighter and Dance Dance Revolution in the Magic City arcade in town, until the replaced most of the games with gamblers in the mid 2000s. I think it closed a couple of years back. It was actually a good place to meet girls playing music games lol

by Toby; ; Report

Ah fair enough! But yeah, it's changed a lot, at least in some parts! Still some grimy areas around the station and outside of the centre, but then I guess all UK cities have a few of those. It's nice that it's got so many arty people around now and a generally much nicer vibe, but on the down side, rent and house prices are through the roof at the moment and I'm trying to move house unfortunately!

That arcade sounds great. I completely missed out on it in my teens though! I used to go to a lot of gigs at the Marquee if you ever went there? They used to have loads of alternative shows on but sadly they closed down a few years ago too.

by Tirful; ; Report

Yeah I only went once! I think I'll be doing right to buy on my dads council flat there so... I might end up retiring where it all begin lmao

What venues are (or were big before Covid) in Norwich at the moment?

by Toby; ; Report

Oh nice, yeah that sounds like a pretty great plan, especially if the city carries on improving the way it has been the last few years.

The biggest venues are the Waterfront, UEA LCR and Arts Centre – most of the touring/pro level bands play in one of those, but for MASSIVE bands or pop stars they sometimes put on shows in the football stadium or a big park, I haven't been to any of those massive shows myself though!

There are still a few pubs, bars and clubs that host smaller DIY shows as well, but those all seem to change fairly regularly so you just have to hear about the smaller gigs through the grapevine!

thanks for the add! I feel the same way about social media - I'm hoping that using Spacehey will make it fun again

Report Comment

"I'm no fun."
I had to add you after reading that lmao

Yeah - I do feel people who hit 30 start moaning about the past, and that's when you become a dinosaur. Live in the present! The present is cool.

But at one point social media did become... Aggressive and about being "popular" and "right". All that is subjective. I love the fact I can come here, chill, and talk to random people (like you!). But you're cool and I would never have connected with you without spacehey.

Thanks for accepting. =] Stay safe!! x

I get so happy when I see someone from GEN X haha.

Although I honestly think I'm more Millennial, I guess it's the weird thing about being born on the border. Thanks, I'd rather have a profile with music and pictures but html did my head in back then, so no hope for me now. And I know it's not even coding, only copy and paste lmao

Hope you're doing good

by Toby; ; Report

We are out there, although most of us are smart and lurk in the shadows to watch whatever toxicity the generation before us is spewing due to their unfailing need to reject any change in general. Then there is the newest generation that says, "You know what? That's just stupid to be acting that way! Let's just get along, we are all human aren't we?"

And there Gen Xers lurk. The forgotten generation lol

So I have to ask. If you are on the cusp of Gen X and Millennial, which half do you most relate to?
I see Shawshank and Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, so I'm thinking it might be the GenX side lol

That reminds me, I haven't seen Shawshank in a while. I know that movie line-for-line hehe.

Have a wonderful day!

by SDesires; ; Report

Hey!

I was thinking today, Gen Z humour cracks me up so much. Also Gen Z (eccentric and almost non sensical) humour seems to be far more self aware - Definitely more parallels to Gen X than Millennials.

Until the early 2010's I thought I was Gen X... But during the 2010's I identified with Millennials so much more. I made the switch to say I was really a Millennial.

Not that it matters, just a stupid divisional group made by marketing to set us upon each others throats lmao. It is really good to have sites like this to connect to everyone, as opposed to what Facebook has become... Clinical and one track minded ("you don't socially/politically agree with me?!?! Fu/ck you!! haha).

The 80's are... I can't remember them. Even the 90's are a distant memory and I was a legal adult who could drink at a bar then. It's worrying how quick you forget things but also important to live in the present.

Thank you so much for the accept, I'll be talking to you more in the future I'm sure.

by Toby; ; Report

No worries, I am about 2 years older then you judging by your profile (1980 I believe it says) if my math is correct, and I agree fully with you. Most my age don't even know how to clean their computers or all the fun things they can do and here I am reteaching myself how to create websites and get called when others my age have a tech issue..("have you tried turning it off and then back on??lol")

There are some remnants of the past that you have to hang on to since they are from learning experiences and without them, you wouldn't be who you are today. The rest of it? Toss it. Free up the mental room for the fun new things to learn in the future.

As for FB. That's a dumpster fire. The latest political drama BS just riled up old sore spots and brought out more toxicity from people. Sad really. Places like this are more needed then people think.

And yes, we will keep in touch, I'm usually lurking somewhere or another lol

Saw you just switched to PC. I was console for decades but now you can play pretty much anything on PC. Really is the way forwards !!

As much as I love Facebook, you just can't really connect to new people. Everyone here has been so chill, it's weird how social media culture started limiting who you spoke to.
