I run a 5th edition game, and I've run many. If there is one thing I as a Game Master can say, it's that WotC's Dungeons & Dragon's is not worth it. Yes it's very accessible, but only to an extent; combat is slow and very much a slog, the game is over consumerized, and the corporate entity that runs it doesn't truly care about the players, just the profit.
