ABOUT ME

I was born in 1990 in Dallas, TX.

Music is a huge part of my life. I listen to it, I create it, and I think about it a lot. I've always got my MP3 player handy. I play Fender guitars and Electro-Harmonix pedals.

I am a very politically-minded person. I have been a Marxist-Leninist for over a decade, and it is the lens through which I view the world around me. I oppose any sort of bigotry against people marginalized by the system in which we live; trans people are who they say they are, black lives matter, immigrants are human beings, indigenous people deserve their land, I unequivocally support the Palestinian people in their struggle for liberation, abortion should be legal, addiction should not be criminalized, etc.

I'm an atheist and I don't believe in anything supernatural whatsover. I don't make it my personality and I don't care what other people believe, but it does inform a portion of my worldview.
I was raised Jewish and I am ethnically Ashkenazi through my mom, I had a Bar Mitzvah, the whole nine yards. I do not, and have never, supported the existence of the state of Israel. Free Palestine.

I'm a "right to the city"-style advocate for urbanism; I view this through a leftist lens. Density, walkability, comprehensive transit systems, accessibility, communities.
I like cities and I'm more comfortable in that environment.
I lovetrains, I like buses.
I despise cars, and I am extremely resentful, both of the fact that they are ever-present in my environment, and that it is mandatory, and enforced, that I use them personally. Worse still, I must pay for the "privilege."

I really enjoy walking.
I love cold weather.

I like video games but I play pretty casually. Mostly one player or couch co-op/vs. I usually play Gamecube or N64, occasionally some SNES or GB/GBC/GBA games. I also occassionally play Magic: The Gathering.

My preference is always to own a physical copy of any music, book, movie, or game. I like devices that only do the one thing they're meant to do, and that do it well.

I really like hockey. I'm a Pittsburgh Penguins fan. I go for all Pittsburgh teams; Penguins, Steelers, Pirates, Riverhounds, etc.
For basketball, I like the Spurs.

I'm a food enthusiast. I enjoy cooking but I prefer eating way more. I love all sorts of food. I even like going grocery shopping.

I'm really interested in pirate history.

I can be fairly introverted, but when I do feel like going out, I usually find fulfillment in places as opposed to specifically socializing. A restaurant, a skating rink, a bowling alley, an arcade, a museum, a zoo, a walk down a pleasantly designed street, a nice park. That's not to say that I don't enjoy the company of others, of course, and I do need that as well; especially if we are doing the aforementioned activities together. I just find myself wanting to 'go out' to scratch the extroversion itch rather than simply socializing or being around specific people.

I am happily engaged.

I'm with my fiancé the vast majority of the time because we actively like doing everything together, but when we're not, I generally enjoy being alone, just spending time by myself (or out in public, but not 'with' anyone).
I intentionally keep a very small number of close friends, and a slightly larger, but still small group of peripheral friends.

I was born and raised in Texas. Reluctantly still here.

I can (almost) do a kickflip (with a Tech Deck)

Interpol Call me a safe bet
I'm betting I'm not
I'm glad that you
can forgive
Only hoping as time goes
you can forget

It's such a good show. I binge season 7 and 9 constantly!

Thanks for the add!

Also, holy shit, I feel like we could talk about music for hours lmao

For sure, looks like there's a good amount of overlap!

by Usual Egg; ; Report

Definitely!
I actually shrank my list down from when I first made this because it was disproportionate to the rest of my profile hahaha there's a TON of overlap

I'm glad to be in the company of another eclectic music fan (and another old dude)
:)

Fuck yea! Wrinkly music FTW! I usually do a SOTD but I haven't lately cause I'm sort of in a musical void right now while I look for the next obsession

by Usual Egg; ; Report

I get that, I definitely have those days.

Maybe I can help! What vibe are you looking for, maybe I can make you a playlist. You got Spotify or YouTube music?

by s0ng5x4b0utxc4rxcrash3s; ; Report

Spotify, though I usually share YT videos here since they're the most accessible for everyone. Most recently I've been into some combination of weird avant garde jazz metal miscellaneous

Here's a taste. I don't expect you to listen to all of that though lol

----- The Louis Cole section -----
clown core - computers
Louis Cole - Doing The Things
KNOWER - Nightmare
----------------------------------

Igorrr - Cheval
MonoNeon - undercover on the diamond floor
Molina - Vaporized
LUSTSICKPUPPY- RIDEIT
Louie Zong - BIG EGG
We Used to Cut the Grass - Visitors Pomp (two part videom - just part 1, skip part 2 unless you want to melt your brain)

by Usual Egg; ; Report

I definitely checked out all of them! This is wild, I've never heard of any of these except clowncore.
That Louis Cole dude is gnarly.
I've heard of We Used To Cut The Grass, I feel like someone recommended them to me once.

I'm assuming you're already well aware of Mr. Bungle

Maybe this song by Devin Townsend

Maybe Thank You Scientist

by s0ng5x4b0utxc4rxcrash3s; ; Report

Those were all pretty good! I've seen thank you scientist in a lot of my generated spotify playlists but haven't gotten super into them yet. My bungle is somewhat familiar like I should be familiar with them. I enjoy the carnival ska metal vibe haha. Never heard of devin townsend. I related to the adhd lol

by Usual Egg; ; Report

I feel like Mr Bungle's first album was the grandfather of a ton of the weirder bands that had that manic sort of thing going on.

They definitely didn't invent it but it think they made it more accessible to alt rock crowds

by s0ng5x4b0utxc4rxcrash3s; ; Report

Yea that sounds about right they definitely have that inspirational weird sauce that could kick start a whole new generation of artists
