About me:

Hi! I’m Rebecca, but you can call me Becca. I love classic movies, reading, history, museums, old photographs, Art Deco, animals, and spending way too much time going down random historical rabbit holes.
I’m especially interested in Anna May Wong and Asian American film history. I’ve been researching Anna May Wong for more than 20 years, and I’m currently working on an A–Z reference book about her life, films, career, and legacy.
I can happily lose an afternoon looking through old newspapers, photographs, movies, and archives. Finding some tiny piece of history that hasn’t been talked about in decades is one of my favorite things.
I’m a former preschool teacher, trained in CNC machining, a pet sitter, and generally someone who likes learning new things.
I care a lot about racism and the way Asian women have been stereotyped and fetishized in movies and popular culture. I love old Hollywood, but that doesn’t mean pretending everything about the past was wonderful.
Outside of research, I’m usually watching a movie, reading, hanging out with animals, exploring somewhere around the Bay Area, or surfing the internet.
Mostly I’m here to meet people, make friends, talk about our interests, and enjoy a little corner of the internet that feels like the old web.
Who I'd like to meet:
Kind, open-minded people who enjoy good conversations and genuinely want to make friends.
I’d especially love to meet other Asian Americans, classic movie fans, readers, creative people, history nerds, museum lovers, and people who get excited about learning oddly specific things.
But we definitely don't need to have all the same interests! I actually like hearing people talk about things they genuinely love, even when I know absolutely nothing about them.
