About me:
I am both a sadist and a masochist. To the people who don’t know what that is, a sadist is someone who finds joy, satisfaction or excitement from inflicting pain onto someone else. A masochist is someone who feels joy, satisfaction or excitement from receiving pain, discomfort or vulnerability. Neither of these mix well.. But at the same time, neither can control it. Yes, sadist can control their actions but these urges are automatic. I can’t control how I feel seeing someone else or myself being hurt. Having a desire does not remove my capability to understand right from wrong or my capacity to stop myself from acting on it. The short answer for if a masochist can control it or not is no, they can’t control the urges itself but they can learn to control the behavior. Not to be confused, there are two terms for a masochist! A consensual BDSM/kink and a phycological/non-sexual masochist like I am! People who enjoy masochism in a consensual setting (like BDSM) have significant control. They actively choose their desires, set strict boundaries, negotiate limits with partners, and use safety mechanisms like safe words to dictate the intensity of the experience. For those with moral or personality-based masochism like myself, such as habitual self-harm, an inability to stand up for themselves, or accepting guilt. they often feel like they have very little control. These traits are typically subconscious defense mechanisms or coping strategies that stem from early experiences or past trauma, rather than conscious choices.
