i'm from the east coast
As emo became mainstream in the early 2000s, an increasing number of bands began signing with major record labels. The music became more produced and lost much of its DIY aspect. The genre mixed traditional emo—like first wave emo—with several other genres, including: pop-punk, rock, metal, new wave, chamber pop, and even showtune and opera.
