In July 2023 my parents finally let me buy pet rats. I wanted them for a really long time because theyre intelligent cute and very loving. First I bought a tiny white gray rat the seller told me it was a boy so i named him Remy. Rats cant be alone so a week later i went to the pet store again and bought 2 brothers Robert and Stefan. Everything was going great until a month later Remy was becoming weirdly fat and had nipples. Turns out Remy was a girl and was pregnant. The seller didnt know. We changed her name to Rita and in August she gave birth to 16 little rats. Meanwhile Stefan was becoming agressive towards Robert. He didnt let him out of his hideout didnt let him eat, bit his tail a lot and once i saw him trying to bite the tip of Roberts tail of. I was heartbroken because Robert was squeling when he washed his tail to soothe the pain. We gave Stefan away and Robert was happy and healthy again. I bought Rita her own cage because I didnt want to give away Rita nor Robert. I kept 2 girls (Bożena, Chupa Chups) and 2 boys (Przemek, Judasz) i sold the rest of them on the internet I hope they all found a happy home. In december 2024 Robert hit his head on a metal bowl and became paralyzed 2 days later. I remember the stressfull night when I had to wake up every 3 hours to feed him from a syringe because he was so weak he couldnt feed himself. It was the weekend so all the vets were closed. On monday we went to the vet in the morning the ver gave him meds and 1 hour after we came back Robert passed away. Im so sad i couldnt be there with him so he wouldnt be scared. This was the saddest story of my rats because i was very attached to him. He would come up to cuddle me, wagged his tail, gave me kisses, ran to the door with me when i was going out. I was crying for like 2 weeks after him. He was such an angel. And still a year later i cry when i think about him. In June 2025 died Rita due to respiratory and heart disease. She was struggling for a long time she had trouble breathing and couldnt eat nuts because she would choke on them and couldnt breathe because rats cant throw up so at least she wasnt hurting anymore when she died. When she was dying i was able to comfort her by talking to her so she wouldnt be scared. in September 2025 Judasz's face swelled up on one side and he passed away a week later. I really dont know what happened to him it was so quick. Przemek was left alone so i had to become his new best friend. I enjoyed that time because we would watch tv together every day he was boggling when i pet him he loved ear scratches i attached to him a lot. In december 2025 he fell of his cage and hit his head on the floor. Nothing was wrong first but then he started to walk with his head tilted. We went to the vet and he gave him meds. A couple days later he was walking less and less and became paralyzed. The day he died i spent a lot of time with him because i had this gut feeling he needed this that day. He died that night but i was there with him talking to him and petting him. He stopped squeling when i started to do so. He wasnt scared anymore he felt that i was with him and im happy about that. I miss him so much i feel so guilty that i didnt catch him in that moment. And now im left with my 2 girls but not for long because the same thing is happening to Chupa Chups that was happening to Judasz before he passed . We bonded very deeply we watched TV together every day he was boggling when i gave him ear scratches he loved cuddles and was so sweet. In december 2025 he fell from his cage and hit his head on the floor. Nothing was wrong at first but then he was walking with his head tilted and scratched his ear a lot. We went to the vet got him meds but day after day he walked less and less. Then he became paralyzed and even had trouble to lift his head up. On the final day i had this gut feeling that i needed to cuddle with him because "he needed it" that day. Sure enough he died that night. I noticed when i heard squealing. I came up to him and started talking to him and petting him. It calmed him down because he stopped squeaking. He passed away but im happy that he wasnt scared because i was there with him. Im so sorry that i didnt catch him when he was falling. I miss him so much. And now im left with my 2 girls but not for long because the same thing that happened to Judasz before he passed is starting to happen to Chupa Chups and Bożena has a respiratory disease. I love my rats im gratefull that i was able to take care of them but its so sad that they live so short. I hope they felt loved
