Minneapolis is the most populous city in the U.S. state of Minnesota and the county seat of Hennepin County. Historically, the city grew around Saint Anthony Falls—the only natural waterfall on the Mississippi River. This immense water power transformed the geographic landscape into the milling capital of the world, serving as a massive national trade center for timber and flour in the 19th and 20th centuries.

Today, it forms the "Twin Cities" with the neighboring state capital, Saint Paul. The city's geography is defined by its abundance of water, featuring 13 lakes, wetlands, the Mississippi River, creeks, and waterfalls, all connected by an extensive park system.
