    About me:

Hello, we're Lock Haven University's very own Japanese Animation Society!

We'll be using this blog to promote our club, and talk anything otaku culture.

We meet every Friday night for hours of fun whilst exploring the vast world of Japanese visual-culture.

    Who We Are

Established in the early 2010s, Lock Haven University's Japanese Animation Society has grown from a small anime club into a hub for Japanese pop culture. As of 2025, it goes beyond just anime, fostering a deeper appreciation and understanding of otaku culture.

Are you interested in finding new shows to watch and expanding your taste with media; or do you just want to meet others who share your interests? Consider joining Lock Haven University's very own Anime Club! Animation is a captivating art form with something to offer everyone. Whether you're just starting to explore Japanese animation, looking to meet students on campus with shared hobbies, or curiosity has you looking for your next favorite show.

At the Lock Haven University Anime Club, we invite you to join us and be part of a welcoming and inclusive community. Our Friday meetings are a perfect opportunity to connect with fellow enthusiasts in a safe and supportive environment where you can freely explore your interests, make new friends, and even step out of your comfort zone to try something new. Our activities also extend beyond anime, as we also dive into live-action television and films, enjoy video games together, and discuss various aspects of otaku culture. Our members especially look forward to our once-a-month radio show held in collaboration with the WLHU's "The Lock" Radio station, where we have exciting conversations amongst ourselves. We also encourage you to make a presentation about your favorite anime to show to the club, and tell us what it means to you and why you recommend it so much. . . There's always something to look forward to on Friday night!

On Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays (or any other days we decide to get together), a good portion of the club plays the online role-playing game from SEGA, Phantasy Star Online. We highly recommend you join in on the fun and bond with other club members whilst we adventure on the far away planet of Ragol!

We often have snacks provided as well; be it from club members bringing them in, making them on their own, or the club providing tea & cookies, pizza & soft drinks, or other treats for our club sessions.

Additionally, we maintain an active Discord group for online discussions, event planning, and staying connected with club members throughout the week. Whether you’re on campus or at home, you can always be part of our vibrant community.

    Our Club Values

    1. Being Cringe Is Being Free
Sing your Vocaloid covers. Cry about your waifu. Wear that anime hoodie in public. Shame is for people who don’t know the joy of seasonal anime charts.

    2. Moé Is Sacred
Protect the smol. Respect the tall. Moé isn’t a genre — it’s a lifestyle.

    3. You Can Watch Anime at 3x Speed, But You Must Confess Your Sins
We get it, backlog's huge. But if you skip the OP and ED every time, the gods of anime are watching you.

    4. You Will Never Finish Your MAL List, and That’s Okay
Your “currently watching” has 68 titles. Your “dropped” list is a graveyard. You’re valid. You are us.

    5. All Waifus Are Valid, But Yours Is Mid
We respect your waifu. We will also roast your waifu. These two truths live in harmony. (This includes Husbandos).

    6. Buying Merch Counts as Emotional Support
That $40 plushie is not an impulse purchase — it’s therapy. Don’t question the dopamine.

    7. You’re Not Too Old for This. None of Us Are.
Anime doesn’t have an age limit. Neither does crying over Digimon.

    8. You Will Be Judged for Your Taste — Lovingly
If you stan Kirino from Oreimo, we’re gonna say something. But then we’ll let you finish your ramen and move on.

    9. Watching One Season of Anime Together Is Legally a Marriage
You trauma-bonded during Madoka Magica. That’s it. You’re emotionally hitched.

    10. No One Knows What the Club is Doing. We’re Still Showing Up Anyway.
Is it a watch party? Is it a game night? Is it five people talking about catgirls for two hours? Yes. It’s all of that.

    11. If You Hear the Ping, You Must Answer the Call
Announcements are sacred transmissions from the anime gods (or club officers). Whether it’s a last-minute watch party, a Phantasy Star Online dungeon run, or a ramen-fueled campus mission — be ready.
➤ You don’t have to show up to everything, but you DO have to pretend you saw the message.
