Heroes |
I wouldn't consider having any heroes. Idolizing strangers across a screen or whom my only knowledge consists on a parasocial relationship me or other people have formed about what we pretend to know or believe about them. For me a hero will only be an archetype. You can't know your hero, it devoids them of their trascendental nature; but you can't not know them either. God forbid you decide to idealize someone problematic who only showed a cartoon of themdelves to the public eye. A hero can't be the moon, whose only face we can see is the one that shows the light. And a hero can't be the sun, cause if it's a person too close to you, heroificating them will burn you like a tourist burns in south Europe. To me, a hero must exist in fiction, and though I'm fond of classic heroes like Achilles or Gilgamesh, those values are not of our taste nowadays. Some universal topics can be taken into account, sure, but they won't fulfill the hero's role. I'd love to have a modern hero to look up to. Superheroes can do the trick, but in their dual nature of two personas they are flawed and not a good example to follow. But even if I don't have a hero or set role model, I admire everyone with a kind heart and feel inspired by the characters that never seem to give up, that persist in spite of all. Maybe my "hero" is nothing more than the archetype, than the idea of heroes in itself. The idea of something that through centuries persists and makes people evrywhere feel motivated. Anything that offers hope is an act of heroism. |
