any specific classic literature recs? i've been meaning to get into classic short stories (mostly sci-fi and goth) so i thought i'd ask!

To answer though for classic recs, these are some I've read and really enjoyed: the adventures of sherlock holmes, demian, the invisible man, the strange case of dr. jekyll and mr. hyde, and the turn of the screw. I also recommend a lot of Dostoyevsky's novels too, even though they're not strictly gothic lit. but his expression and themes have similar elements. Even though it's not short, I also recommend Dracula, but for a shorter read there is also Carmilla!

i'll be sure to note those recs, especially the turn of the screw! i also find this SOO funny because one of my friends really wants to get me into Dostoyevsky's crime & punishment. i also just finished frankenstein and really loved it so i'm hoping that it'll bring me into reading other classics.

I'm really glad by the way, I hope you find something you enjoy too out of those. That's a good classic out of his other ones, and admittedly also a pretty long read to dedicate to. ^^;; However, it can be worth the analysis in the end! Frankenstein though, yes! ♡ Very much classic goth lit. it's been a few years since I read that one too, but that's awesome to hear! Exploring what it means to be human, forbidden knowledge, etc; all such great themes to explore.

i really like it too! plus their search function is top tier, so i'm really glad it's out there.

i've heard good things about it too! i eventually want to get to it, especially since having friends who also like it makes the experience so much better in my opinion.
i loved analyzing frankenstein so much. i originally read it because it's my best friend's favorite book, but also i really wanted to get to the origin of science fiction and gothic literature.
