Heroes |
APPEARANCE The HEADSPACE version of HERO wears a set of blue-striped pajamas. His hair is unkempt from sleep, as seen in his sprites. Like KEL and AUBREY, he lacks socks or shoes and his hair and eyes are purple. According to SPROUT MOLE MIKE, he is 5'7" at the age of fifteen. HERO is also the oldest and tallest of the party. In the present, HERO appears as a young adult man with a more mature appearance compared to the others. HERO has neatly-styled brown hair and black eyes like KEL. His main attire consists of a navy V-neck sweater, grey pants and white shoes. It is also notable that he grew taller like the other main characters. PERSONALITY During his youth, HERO is the peacemaker of the group, who tries to restrain his friends whenever they get too worked up.[3][4][5] He is described as having a mild personality and passionate in domestic work like baking, cooking, and cleaning, making him an ideal employee.[6][7][8] HERO also has a charismatic side that he uses to charm others.[9][10] His charisma allows him to convince others to go along with his requests, get discounts from MAILBOX and befriend animals like EMS. However, he can sometimes be a pushover when confronted, and has difficulty refusing others. He also appears to have arachnophobia (an irrational fear of spiders) to the point of freezing up completely. These traits are shared with his HEADSPACE counterpart. In the present, HERO still retains his amicable, warm-hearted persona during his adulthood. He is well-loved by the folks of FARAWAY TOWN and admired for his charisma as well. KEL even describes him as being "naturally good at everything", and is proud of him for that.[11] He notably possesses a talent in succeeding in virtually everything he tries, though he admits his reputation is heavily exaggerated. HERO is rather calm and understanding towards anyone he meets, even trying to comfort them in times of distress. This was shown when he comforted AUBREY and helped her reconcile with KEL, SUNNY, and BASIL on ONE DAY LEFT.[12][13][14] Despite this, he is rather mellowed down mostly due to suffering from depression over MARI's death and trying to get his life back on track.[15][16] HERO also appears to keep his emotions in check most of the time, although he does get deeply emotional whenever he remembers MARI's presence.[17] Regardless, HERO still tries to remain strong for his friends and will do anything to make sure they feel comfortable and safe at all times.[18] His firm resolve to continue looking forward in life, as well as being there for his friends, cements him as a mature, comforting type of person.[19] Always putting others above himself, HERO is a reliable, kind-hearted person who is wise and capable enough to take care of his friends whenever they need help, even to a fault.[20][21] CHARACTER INFO According to the official walkthrough and strategy guide, info regarding HERO consists of: Birthday: JAN 1 Likes: COOKING, BAKING, TEA, MARI'S HUGS, HELPING OTHERS Dislikes: SPIDERS, EXERCISE, SWEATING, INSTANT RAMEN As the eldest, wisest, and most winsome, HERO often plays peacemaker within the gang and settles spats between AUBREY and KEL. He'll whip you up a restorative SNACK when you're feeling low. HERO was born to his unnamed father and mother approximately 19 years before the start of the game. Three years later, his younger brother KEL was born. HERO obtained the nickname "HERO" because of his love for HERO SANDWICHES.[22] At some point, HERO became friends with his next-door neighbors MARI and SUNNY, then later AUBREY and BASIL. They, along with his younger brother KEL, would spend much of their time together. One day, HERO went out with his mom to buy clothes and shoes and didn't get home until the afternoon. KEL went out to get a haircut with his dad. AUBREY was there with her dad as well because the three were going to watch MARI and SUNNY's music recital. It was supposed to be that night, but when they came home in the evening, they found out she had died, believing that she had hung herself. HERO became severely depressed and secluded himself from his friends, family, school and hobbies for about a year. KEL tried to encourage HERO one day, but this resulted in HERO taking out his grief and anger on KEL.[23] His parents immediately rushed to comfort him, ignoring KEL who was also in tears. Noticing this, HERO immediately embraced KEL and apologized. It is after this instance that HERO strived to do much better, though according to KEL, he is still somewhat closed off.[24] He once considered becoming a chef partly due to MARI's encouragement. However, after MARI's death he decided to follow his parents' wishes to become a doctor. When SUNNY leaves his house for the first time, HERO is still at college and is scheduled to return the next day. HERO's family prepares for his return, with KEL taking SUNNY to get a welcoming gift as well as food for his mother to serve. The next day, SUNNY and KEL decide to go run an errand to await for HERO's return. Sometime during the afternoon, they both hear BASIL screaming for help and discover THE HOOLIGANS tormenting him once again. A fight ensues, with the outcome leading to AUBREY accidentally shoving BASIL too hard into the lake. Knowing that BASIL might drown, KEL tells SUNNY to dive in to save him. However, SUNNY isn't able to fully rescue BASIL. HERO manages to arrive at the HANGOUT SPOT in the nick of time, saving both SUNNY and BASIL. The three boys decide to take BASIL back to his home to recover, and later spend the rest of the afternoon hanging out together. The three eventually eat dinner together (after HERO and KEL convince their mother), and then have a sleepover at SUNNY's house. At the middle of the night, HERO hears what appears to be a familiar piano tune playing downstairs. He heads over to the piano room, only to find SUNNY standing there too. Understanding that SUNNY was there due to missing MARI, he tells the boy he feels same as well. However, when SUNNY leaves to go back to sleep, HERO somberly cries on the piano keys, muttering MARI's name as he still misses her dearly. When SUNNY, KEL and HERO wake up from their sleepover, KIM comes to SUNNY's house to inform them that AUBREY isn't answering her door. HERO insists that they need to go make up with AUBREY, and he directs the party to her house to talk to her. The party goes inside, and HERO talks to AUBREY to convince her and KEL to make up. The group also find the missing photos, which all picture MARI, on her corkboard, AUBREY mentioning that she took them because "it's all she has left of her." They put them back in the PHOTO ALBUM and leave the house. The reunited friends first attempt to visit BASIL'S HOUSE to check on him, only to find out from POLLY that BASIL is visiting his grandmother at the hospital. Despite this, HERO and his friends decide to check on BASIL later, spending the rest of their day hanging out, while reminiscing the past at some spots in town before visiting their old treehouse. From there, HERO finds his old set of cookbooks all dusty and dirty while SUNNY collects the missing photo containing the key to the toy box. As the group reminiscences the happier memories of their childhood, AUBREY storms out of the treehouse. HERO and KEL follow her, with SUNNY leaving last. Near the tree stump where MARI had supposedly died, HERO and the others listen to AUBREY being open about her feelings. She apologizes for blaming them for not being there for her, to which both HERO and KEL comfort her in response. The four friends then reconcile for real and share a big group hug together. The group heads over to BASIL's house to comfort him but the latter has locked himself away in his room, unresponsive. Regardless, they all eventually decide to stay over for the night to celebrate SUNNY's last day at FARAWAY TOWN, as well as being there for BASIL. Before falling asleep in the living room, HERO, KEL, and AUBREY tell SUNNY that life will get better even after he moves out, as he still has them in heart and spirit. They then fall asleep after having a heartfelt conversation. MOVING DAY NEUTRAL ENDINGS After remembering the truth, if SUNNY chooses to go back to sleep instead of confronting and saving BASIL, this will lead to another tragedy as BASIL succeeds in killing himself. This leaves the entire friend group and POLLY in complete despair upon discovering BASIL's corpse. Upon waking up once more, SUNNY finds the entire living room empty. Heading up north, SUNNY finds his friends and POLLY in the hallway, distraught over BASIL's suicide. HERO is shown staring at the door to BASIL's room, barely managing to keep himself together. Upon noticing SUNNY, HERO tearfully pleads the former to not look at BASIL's corpse. He then tells SUNNY that it's best that he should leave since he is supposed to be moving and having a fresh new start in life. Adding that the others will take care of things from there, HERO assures SUNNY that "they will be okay" with a doubtful tone in his voice. With no other choice left, SUNNY leaves his distraught friends behind with no answers regarding the truth behind MARI's accidental death at all. GOOD ENDING The friend group's peaceful sleepover is interrupted right after SUNNY manages to stop BASIL through his disastrous attempt to save him. In the process, BASIL ends up giving SUNNY a severe eye injury with his gardening shears. Being unable to continue fighting due to mental stress and fatigue, both boys fall unconscious during the outcome of the fight. HERO and the others soon wake up and find the two boys unconscious. The truth 2 Sunny prepares to tell his friends the truth behind Mari's death. The three friends presumably call an ambulance, evident by the sirens going off during the aftermath of the fight, and both boys are immediately rushed to the hospital. After a climactic struggle against OMORI within his mind, SUNNY awakens in his hospital bed crying with a bandage over his right eye, finally coming to terms with MARI's death. He then limps out of his room and visions his HEADSPACE friends and STRANGER for the final time as he heads towards BASIL's hospital room. From there, HERO can be seen standing beside BASIL's hospital bed alongside KEL and AUBREY. The group then notices SUNNY standing at the doorway, ready to tell them what truly happened when MARI died. The friends' reactions are left to the viewer's imagination as the game cuts to the credits. |
