Last Movie I watched

Hot Fuzz - Rating 3 Stars

Maybe it's just because I'm not a big fan of cop shows, or maybe it's because I haven't watched this movie five times over so I don't get all of the clever jokes, but I thought this movie was, okay. I didn't find it as funny as Shaun of the Dead and definitely not as funny as everyone else on the planet. It does have all of the hallmarks of an Edgar Wright movie though, which is always wonderful to see with an equally absurd plot to match but all and all it was just okay. Maybe I didn't take the right message away from it, or maybe the humour wasn't just for me and maybe my opinion will change on a re-watch (which I plan to do some day) but for now I think a 3 star rating is apt.

Chavs-The Demonization of the Working Class (2016 Edition) - (Current) Rating 4.5 Stars

A poignant if a bit biased book in defence of the British white working class (or chavs) against the middle class. I'm only about a quarter of the way through this book and yet I'm blown away by it already. The case study in the first chapter comparing the media reaction to Maddie McCann and Sharon Matthews was absolutely amazing. I quite genuinely could not put it down. I know the main tactic used to hold my attention in this book is outrage-bait. Despite this, I've fallen for it hook line and sinker. Highly recommend for anyone who's interested in class inequality and the effect media has on the public's preconceived notions of society.

Red Dead Redemption 2 - (Current) Rating TBD

Full transparency, I tried this game about 2 years ago and dropped it at the beginning of chapter 2. After playing tlou part 1 and 2 (at a friends recommendation) and gaining a renewed interest in Triple A games, I decided to give it a go again (at the same friend's request). I can confidently say, it's a brilliant game. The characters are unbelievably complex and well written, every mission feels fresh and the open world is nothing short of phenomenal-though I don't explore it as much as I should. I can't wait to play more!
