Missfortune

General

I like looking out the window to see the stars, but some times I cry because I know they are still outside. can they see me? they have never harmed me, but i know i should not leave even if i could. there is something even worse than them outside. they are tall like mountains and i some times see them in the distance, looking at the house. their presence makes things strange.

Music

there is a music box in one of the rooms. i do not know the name of the song

Movies

there are DVDs on the living room. I like the musicals because they distract me from the silence of the dead trees.

Television

i can always hear him watching the television when i am in bed at night. the tv never works when i try to use it, only the DVD player works. he watches something called "how to take care of a human". i think that is why there is always food in the kitchen.

Books

father used to say that only boys are allowed to read and that women who do are witches in the eyes of our people. but i looked at the books in the library so much i started to understand the letters. am i a witch now? they were silly anyways. maybe that is why i escaped and they did not.
