I lay in the tub, water falling onto my stomach from the shower above. My head rests on the back of the low rising porcelain, cradling my neck. I turn my head to the side, my gaze meets that of a small creature, eye level with me. Desperatly clinging to the water logged ceramic tile of the shower wall. My first thought "gross", my second thought "a pity". It's a bug, a very small one. It attemps to climb, perhaps aimlessly upwards. However, droplets of water with aggressive force assault it from above. The bug struggles. I watch. I think "I could help you". But then what if i hurt it? I think, "I could kill you". But do i have the right? Killing a bug intruding in your home is custome. But is it fair? If we are all cut from the same cloth, doesn't that mean your thread is woven in me too? If we all come from stars, am i entitled to return you to stardust? If we are one soul, do i hurt myself by hurting you? I've killed your kind before, I will kill your kind again. What's the difference? But what would they think if i let you live? you're a pest, an intruder, smaller than me. But i see you struggle, as i have done the same. Do i have the right? This is your home too. I continue to watch. Is your life lesser because you are small? Because you can't speak for yourself? Because you are different? If you live will you multiply? Will you infest my home and force my hand? And then will i have the right? I continue to watch, you continue to struggle. My sympathy over powers me. I reach out a hand. Not with intention to save, but to lessen the burden. I block the rain that assaults you. If only for a moment. Do i have the right to help you? you are a pest. An intruder. Smaller than me.
