profile inspired by the chinese room's game 'everybody's gone to the rapture'
media recommendations:
everybody's gone to the rapture: a ‘walking sim’ story based game where you explore a small town whose residents have all disappeared. genuinely made me cry, multiple times. gets written off because it's a walking sim and the thing that guides you through the town just runs off sometimes so it's hard to know where to go, but worth it anyway. absolute masterpiece of storytelling.
outer wilds: game set in a small solar system where you must figure out the secrets of the universe. i can't tell you any more - it's a game based on knowledge! wonderful wonderful masterpiece of a game that you can only play once. i won't shut up about it. the dlc, echoes of the eye, is just as good. this game had a massive effect on my life and my personal philosophy.
SOMA: a survival horror game. you find yourself in a massive underwater facility, etc etc, you gotta save mankind. a very psychological game, amazingly written, absolutely terrifying, and also had an effect on my life. plus, robots! also it's really sad. a lot of these are really sad.
inside no. 9: a dark comedy tv show written by reece shearsmith and steve pemberton, two members of the league of gentlemen. each episode is different, but always set in a place that has some relation to the number 9 (like a house number 9, a club named 9, etc). it's a very good show! my favourite episodes are how do you plead, mother's ruin, and boo to a goose. shearsmith & pemberton both feature in (almost) every episode. you can find it on bbc iplayer - not sure where people can get it outside of the uk - but it's very british with it's references and everything, so it may be harder to ‘get’ parts of it if you aren't british! definetly give it a shot anyway.
