Poppy's Interests

General

I enjoy drawing, writing, playing video games, watching documentaries, and reading. I’m a big fan of 20th and early 21st century American history (post WWII spanning to shortly after 9/11) in particular.

As an American myself, I find it very fascinating and rather sobering to try to find the answer for why the world/country has become what it is today. I’ll never have all the answers, but I appreciate gaining a deeper understanding as to why my experience living thus far is so different (yet also similar) to those that came before me.

In essence: I’m the kid who was always pumped to hear my grandpa’s “old” stories, much to the annoyance of my cousins. I learned that orange juice production standards are much higher than they were in the ‘70s, so be thankful for that.

Music

Unfortunately for us all, I’m a big fan of Taylor Swift’s music. It’s like being gay, it wasn’t by choice and I found out as a child. I actually am gay so growing up I got a double-whammy.

Other than that, I’m a fan of 2000s-era pop like Ke$ha and Katy Perry, as well as “indie” alternative pop artists like Death Cab for Cutie, Two Door Cinema Club, and Bastille.

Movies

My taste is all over the place, honestly. I’ll throw out some of my favorites in no particular order and you’ll see what I mean. Don’t think too hard about my choices.

Kiki’s Delivery Service (1989)

Inside Out (2014)

Zootopia (2016)

12 Angry Men (1959)

The Jerk (1979)

The Breakfast Club (1985)

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (1986)

Stand by Me (1986)

Office Space (1999)

Forrest Gump (1994)

Treasure Planet (2002)

Reservoir Dogs (1991, also Tarantino’s only decent film FIGHT ME)

Paul Blart: Mall Cop (2009)

Television

I typically watch YouTube these days, though I absolutely LOVE cartoons.

Gravity Falls, Regular Show, Robotomy, The Angry Beavers, Doug, SpongeBob… the list goes on.

I actually don’t like Invader Zim much. Please don’t kill me.

Books

I need to read more, but I really enjoyed Fahrenheit 451, I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream, and Of Mice and Men.

I will complain all day about how terrible George Orwell’s 1984 is, though.

I understood the subtext perfectly fine, it was just bad and I’m not gonna pretend like Wilson and ‘O Brian didn’t have something gay going on.

Heroes

Jimmy Carter, Bob Ross, and Dolly Parton off the top of my head.

I’d throw up in pure excitement if I ever met Taylor Swift, but that would be more of an involuntary reaction.

Poppy's Blurbs

About me:

Hiya, I’m a 24-year-old girl who never had unsupervised internet access as a child, so I’m making up for lost time! I’ve played Neopets ever since I can remember, and that website is perpetually stuck in a time loop circa 2007, so I’ve at least had some experience with the RAWR XD era of the web.

Without the chain e-mails and shock sites though, so it’s not the most genuine it could have been. I didn’t even see something traumatizing online until I was 16!… then it clearly all went downhill from there.

I enjoy drawing, writing, playing video games, watching documentaries, and reading. Mostly articles about sociology or history online, however sometimes I open up real books, too.

Sometimes.

Who I'd like to meet:

Other twenty/thirty-somethings ideally.

I’ve spent quite a bit of time tutoring high schoolers in language arts, so I can say with experience I’m out of touch with today’s youth. One kid had no idea who FЯED was and it aged me about ten years instantly.

Otherwise, I’m open to chatting with just about everyone! The best part of the internet in my opinion is having the ability to connect with people from all walks of life and broadening my understanding of the world.
