About me:

My actual name is Julianna... a 19 year old girl who made this account for a school project. ---- "Mateo Cruz is a mild-tempered seventeen-year-old second-generation Mexican-American living in the middle of Connecticut with no friends and no life direction. He decided to start a blog where he describes his first real friendship, and relationship, and as he starts to question his sexuality. I was inspired to create this native by many of the stories we had examined in class, namely Down These Mean Streets by Piri Thomas, Drown by Junot Díaz, and Quinceañera (2006) directed by Richard Glatzer and Wash Westmore. In all these stories there are themes of young Latino men struggling to explore their potential homosexuality or experiences with homosexuality while also trying to maintain their traditional sense of masculinity by acting out and making trouble. I decided this would be the theme of my project. I used my research to help me better understand what Mateo’s situation might be like in many circumstances that are unfamiliar to me."
