Ida B. Welles- investigative journalist, Civil Rights activist, suffragist, co-founder of NAACP Nelly Bly- investigative journalist, exposed the abuses of Roosevelt Island (aka Blackwell’s Island). She revolutionized investigative journalism. She also emulated Jules Verne’s 80 day world tour, reported on factory conditions & did war correspondence. She was the shit. Ina Coolbrith- librarian, contemporary of Mark Twain, mentor to the child, Jack London, & California’s first poet laureate. She could play guitar & do flamenco dances. Ina was a smart, interesting lady. She is not as remembered as she should be.
