Magnolia Knoll Fiber Farm's Interests
General |
We have many interests :). Aside from the obvious, we also garden, raise mushrooms, and grow natural medicinal plants and dye plants. The owner of the farm is me, also known as Amanda P., And I enjoy many hobbies! We have begun training our new dog for sheep herding on a practical and competitive level. I love showing my rabbits and hope to begin showing alpacas this year if we have shows. I also love to felt, spin, dye, weave (tapestry, RH and Floor loom :) ) knit, crochet and pretty much any fiber related craft you can imagine. I love genetics and biology and my breeding programs give me plenty of opportunities to experiment and expand my knowledge. I am a fairly experienced wood turner and carpenter. I love pottery and glass blowing and have begun putting together a studio for myself for glass blowing. Most of all I love learning, I love learning new skills or ideas and bringing them back to use in our farm activities! |

Magnolia Knoll Fiber Farm's Blurbs
About me:
We are a small subsistence and fiber farm located in Nelson, VA. We raise alpacas, finnsheep, east friesian sheep, cotswolds, and 3 breeds of angora rabbits, English, French, and German. We are devoted to producing ethically and sustainably grown fiber for the cottage spinning and fiber industry. We process our fiber here on the farm by hand, dye it with natural sources of dye grown here on the farm like indigo, woad, madder root and weld ( we occasionally use acid dyes per request) and spun by hand as well. We offer raw fiber, processed fiber, blended batts, spun yarns, custom orders, and more. We also make spinning and fiber tools by hand with our lathe from local wood. We are hoping to offer lessons in fiber preparation, spinning, dying and knitting again soon. We also offer quality breeding stock from our fiber animals, huacaya alpacas, Finnsheep and finnsheep crosses, East Friesian dairy sheep, and hopefully we will have some cotswolds available soon as well. We specialize in show quality English Angoras in Chinchilla, but have other colors in our show program as well from agoutis, selfs, chocolate and lilacs, fawn/tort, steel, harlequin, pointed white and sables. We also have show quality french Angoras, again, specializing in chinchilla, but we also have harlequin, sable, agouti and self colors. In our German Angoras we are currently breeding for colored lines that can produce IAGARB registerable levels of wool, but we have the standard REW Germans as well as chocolate, tort/fawn, blacks, agouti and steel. We are also working on breeding the lutino gene into English, French, and Germans, we believe the addition of naturally pink tinted wool will be quite a beneficial addition to the cottage fiber industry!
Who I'd like to meet:
We would love to meet anyone who is interested in homesteading, gardening, raising angora rabbits, raising alpacas or sheep for fiber production or dairy, fiber and spinning, weaving, knitting, natural dyeing or growing dye plants. Anyone who is interested in fiber, homesteading, self sufficiency, crafting, or the general farm lifestyle is welcome!
