Music

I mostly listen to music from the 1930s to the present... I love a lot of different stuff, but also hate a lot of different stuff. I guess you could say I'm very picky about music but have a ravenous appetite. Some general genres:

• big band/swing jazz
• western swing
• rockabilly/psychobilly
• garage punk
• surf
• mod
• freakbeat
• psychedelic
• power pop
• classic glam rock
• post-punk
• goth rock
• deathrock
• art punk
• new wave
• classic synthpop
• minimal wave
• coldwave
• darkwave
• dreampop
• shoegaze
• britpop

...and probably a lot more that I'm forgetting here.

Movies

I'm even pickier about films. A few random faves:

• Kelly's Heroes
• The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai
• 13 Assassins [2010; the 141-minute cut]
• All Quiet on the Western Front [1930]
• The Entity
• Encounters of the Spooky Kind
• Four Lions
• In Bruges
• The Road to Wellville
• Withnail & I

Television

Again, I'm very picky. I don't even have a television at home, because there is so little that I'd be interested in watching. I just download what I want.

Books

Mostly non-fiction stuff.

Heroes

I don't really have any heroes, but vet techs might be the closest thing. Also, people who can properly repair and restore tools of artistic creation that otherwise would be thought of as hopeless pieces of junk. So I suppose, people with the skills and stamina to rescue things of joy.

Also, anyone involved involved in anti-ATF* efforts and/or exposing corruption, even at the threat of their own livelihoods or liberty.

Lastly, whoever can tell me how to put lengthy profile info behind a "cut/read more" tag on this site.

*ATF = authoritarianism - totalitarianism - fundamentalism

GENERAL DISCLAIMER
--------------------------

It kind of pains me that I feel like I have to do this, but here's a general disclaimer, copied from my Facebook profile and edited for SpaceHey, and similar to but more detailed to one I posted on MySpace ages ago. What follows not only applies to this site, but to any other social networking site that I might take part in.

(I) SpaceHey is not my diary. My blog posts are not a balanced day-to-day account of my life. My SH blog is not a "Cliff Notes"-style summary of the events in my life.

(II) Any SH posts that I make only represent small portion of my life. They are scattered, fragmentary, and often random and arbitrary. Although I *might* tend to post more often about things that are more important to me, importance is not a determining factor of whether or not I make a post about something. For example,

(a) I may post about a movie I saw and mildly enjoyed, and then not post anything about a movie I saw and thought was amazing.

(b) I may post about a mildly fun night out with friends at a restaurant, and not post about an amazing time I had with people at another place on another night.

(c) I might post a few paragraphs about some local bands I see at a show, and only post a fleeting sentence about seeing one of my very fave bands someplace.

(d) I might post about an unpleasant smell I encountered in the lunchroom at work, and totally neglect to mention something horrible I saw on the side of the road on the way to work that left me traumatized.

(e) I may post about an annoying moth in my room at night but not even mention nearly being swarmed by hornets outside earlier that day during my lunch break.

(f) I might make a brief mention about being excited to see someone and then not post anything about the time spent together during their visit, and then make a huge post about doing laundry after they leave.

(g) One day I might post a link to an unimportant song whose melody is stuck in my head or that's otherwise in my fleeting thoughts, while the next day I might post a link to a song that really conveys how I am intensely feeling emotionally, without ever mentioning the reason why I posted either song.

(h) One week I may post dozens of times about little unimportant delights and annoyances, and another week I might not post anything about some amazing, perspective-altering things, good or bad, that I experienced.

(i) I may click on “Give Kudos” to a post you make that amused me, and totally skip clicking “Give Kudos” on a post you make that I think is amazing and agree with 110%.

(j) Some days I might read everything in whatever the equivalent to the news feed is on this site (is there such a thing? I'm still new here), and some days I might not have time, so I’ll just skim over stuff quickly. Sometimes I might see things that I want to reply to but can’t right then, and then totally forget about them.

(III) Notice how everything that I’ve said in random hypothetical examples (a) through (j) above says “may” and “might.” That is important. Lots of times I WILL post about bigger things going on in my life, and neglect to mention lots of minor things. THERE IS NO UNIVERSAL GENERAL PATTERN OR CRITERIA for what I post/don’t post about, or reply/don’t reply to. I DON’T USE WHAT I POST/DON’T POST ABOUT OR REPLY/DON’T REPLY TO AS A WAY TO COMMUNICATE STUFF BETWEEN THE LINES.

(IV) In other words, SPACEHEY IS NOT MY LIFE, and doesn’t even begin to represent my life. It’s just one of many ways to pass some time, stay in casual contact with people, keep tabs on coming events, share news, etc. IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN THIS WAY AND ALWAYS WILL BE THIS WAY.

(V) If you make judgments about me, my values, or my feelings, or make conclusions or about what my life must be like, based on only what I post or don’t post or what I respond or don’t respond to on SpaceHey, ESPECIALLY if it’s about something you consider important, YOU ARE MAKING A BIG GIANT MISTAKE.

P.S. I have always assumed, and will continue to assume, the EXACT SAME AS SPELLED OUT IN PARAGRAPHS (I) THROUGH (V) ABOVE about everyone else’s social media posting practices (unless I am explicitly informed otherwise about specific individuals’ practices by those specific individuals themselves).

Who I'd like to meet:

The 100 strongest single women in the world :P
