i've been in alignment with jaron lanier and steve wozniak on a lot of things pertaining to social media and the tech industry for a very long time. i've just never had the platform they do to talk about it to a broad audience. i'm glad they're reaching people.

i initially moved to vero when ello sort of went to shit and lost its branding direction, along with a few other ex-ello folk i knew.

i like the fact that vero has the same ethos backbone (no algorithms, no datamining, etc) that ello had when it started, but with a much better sense of UX design that doesn't get worse with every update. it's also been good for building a reasonable amount of organic reach and is a nice secondary photography portfolio of sorts to link to from my professional website as well. it's been good for actually meeting a few people in person as well. basically most everything i'd want from an online sharing platform.

i do wish they'd expand it to give the vero website the same amount of usability as the app, since app-only platforms aren't my favorite way to share things, but it has enough good going for it otherwise that i've stuck around on it longer than most of its peers, and it seems to continue to see slow but steady growth.

cheers and likewise! i basically completely bailed on the social media industry once facebook took over because i saw everything going in a rapidly unethical direction. i'm glad to have discovered this site - hope it sticks around! FWIW you can find me on vero as well, which is another app-based social sharing platform worth checking out that has zero algorithms or datamining. ✌️
