heya, hope you're having fun in your linux endeavors. I just installed my 1st systemd-less distro, Void, on my laptop today. The repos are limited but it's pretty cool. love to see the openbsd fish ofc :3

i actually wanted to install void after failing my gentoo install, but i settled on gnome fedora (despite how much i hate the ram usage). i'd actually use NixOS but unfortunately it doesnt work on my machine:tm:

is void any good? i dont see how it would be different from artix excluding that its not using sysD and that its independent and has another pkg manager

cheers!

it's semi-rolling so you don't have to update it every time you scratch your nose, and xbps is extremely fast. If you don't care abt all that though Artix is probably fine

by Rainy; ; Report

since i posted that comment i have distrohopped around 3 times and i even tried to install void once but no cigar since i couldnt even boot into it

i am now sticking with endeavor for a while, i was almost ready to give up tbh but endeavor saved me

by Dainis; ; Report

oooo endeavour is pretty nice. I recently converted a buddy to linux and hes been using it

by Rainy; ; Report

i plan using it for a while until it breaks/it becomes way too bloated and unusable, then ill try funtoo or gentoo, i dont like really messing with configs so ill probably go funtoo

by Dainis; ; Report

Whats the big deal with gentoo and all? I hear the big thing is you're supposed to compile nearly anything you can from source, including base systems components and such.. idrk the deal with it

by Rainy; ; Report

compilation iirc gives you a minor performance boost and more control over your packages, however gentoo has a binary repo that has precompiled packages (also flatpak support)

i want to use gentoo for bragging rights and to learn more about linux, and just because i want to do something new :-)
