What made something gothic? When I think about goth, I think about part of humanity’s natural inclination to revel in the morose; a need to understand the suffering life deals us. The word itself also once implied the barbaric and crude. The goal of this book is to create a colorful, bitesize timeline of what goth has meant over the course of its existence, attempting to highlight the places where gothic inspiration is hidden and linger, especially within the history of African-American life and culture. My word is not law, but I hope it can spark some constructive and enlightening dialog."
