Its delightful to hear from you too! I agree it can feel like people who are here to actually make friends are getting kinda rare to come by lol.

The oldest OSes I've really spent time with are Windows 2000/XP, so its super interesting to hear about ur experiences with the older 9x stuff. I've just finally found a machine capable of running those OSes so I can't wait to give them a try. I hope you have fun getting back into Osu too! Things are really moving quite quickly and the community is a bit of a cesspool right now, but the game is still quite fun and I may or may not be a tad addicted to it lol

As for the unique discord account for Windows XP it was actually for security reasons! Contrary to popular belief Windows 7 still receives monthly security updates and real time anti-virus protection for those who know how to go about patching windows update, so I feel fairly comfortable using it for all my daily needs. XP, however, is getting quite old now and so keeping my main discord account off of it is just an extra precaution I guess ┐( ˘ ､ ˘ )┌

Just sending you a Discord friend request now!! Adding both just to be sure, but no blame for having a dedicated account on an insecure OS. Very cool that 7 still gets updates, I thought it would have died by now. POSReady updates still going, or Microsoft just trying to stay safe way past it's updates expiring?

I feel you on people finding friends hard to find. I find I meet a lot of people who either go inactive frequently or they end up not having a lot to say. That's on me for having standards on how people use the platform, but it feels a lot like people just add you on profile design and not interests. I found myself rejecting a lot of friend requests from people I share near nada with. Sometimes I don't even have an idea why I'm being added, and I'm left guessing.

Nice on getting a 9x machine!!! A friend found an XP PC, so he's going to play around with that. The last time I played with XP was a virtual machine, but it's always great to see XP era and before stuff every once and a while, it was a different time! The first computer I interacted with ran XP. :P

Osu having a dodgy community is not a surprise, I've already heard a lot about it, and I don't really interact with communities when I play games. Only real exception was like... This bread making simulator, ended up moving into a discord of a bunch of fellow players and stuff, but that doesn't count.

I'm personally interested to know more about how you main 7! I have a WiFi card that only has Windows 10 drivers and such, so hearing somebody using an OS before then sounds really interesting and I really want to see what it's like from somebody who's not on what most people are using by now, haha. Is there any kind of tricks to it?

I totally get what you mean about it being kinda hard to talk to people on here. I do feel very lucky tho! I think I must've won the Spacehey lottery or something because I actually met one of my best friends on here. That's not saying all that much though shes basically one of the only people from here I've ever held a conversation with lol.

As for Osu's community I've met a few very nice people so of course not everybody's a creep or whatever, theres still a lot of bigots and weirdos tho so it can be a lil uncomfy at times. Also, I hope ur friend has fun with their XP machine! Hardware from that time is always super fun to mess around with.

As for 7 still receiving updates, it is kinda similar to POSReady for XP. In this case Microsoft is obligated to continue providing grandfathered in support for Windows Server 2008 R2 which is an OS based on the same NT 6.1 code base that Windows 7 is. As for their antivirus still reviving updates I'm honestly not sure. ┐( ˘ ､ ˘ )┌ Definition updates were meant to stop coming out years ago but they still do.

As for using 7 as my main OS its kinda a long story. Its honestly kind of a miracle it runs on my computer so well because its built completely out of brand new components from only last year. I can only assume I got insanely lucky because it was the first time I've ever had my own desktop computer and I didn't pick any of the parts with Windows 7 in mind.

Even more surprisingly I've been able to find proper drivers for everything, although I didn't need to find wireless drivers because my motherboard doesn't have wifi, only ethernet. Actually using 7 in 2025 isn't all that bad, despite how long its been since the official EOL the vast majority of software and games can still run just fine. Especially if you're like me and mostly like playing indie games and stuff and generally avoid big online games with anti cheat. There are also a ton of community projects like VxKex that make it possible to run the latest version of most programs. (Stuff like Firefox, Steam, Discord, etc.) I'd love to show you more if you'd like! I'm quite proud of my modern 7 desktop (〃＾▽＾〃)

Yeah, Spacehey is just one big lottery for making friends. Out of all the people I met, maybe only one is still around? I added them on Discord and I'm still with him by a stroke of luck. I find everybody else either doesn't really care in the first place, isn't online enough to get me, or they forget they added me after a while. Or they just don't want to talk in general, because I find people add me off my profile, not my interests. Shrug.

Specifically the Windows Server counterpart? I thought 7 updates died a long time ago, that probably explains the confusion. Not entirely sure of the difference between Server and the mainline releases, probably just additional tools or something. Crazy the AV updates are still getting pushed, they must be backporting them. The definition updates should have died a while ago. Congratulations on getting a modern rig going with 7 though! That sounds like a heavenly dream, 7 is a great OS.

I bring up Wifi drivers specifically because my desktop doesn't have on-board Wifi and it's not feasible to get a long Ethernet cable running to where my computer is right now. I'm definitely noting VxKex because iirc my own sibling was gonna try running 7 with I think OneCore, then gave up. I'd love to see more!
