endometriosis: is an incurable full-body systemic inflammatory disease where tissue similar to the endometrium (inside of the uterus) is growing outside of the uterus. it can adhere to every major organ, even the lungs, lining of the heart and the brain. endometriosis lesions respond to hormones during a menstrual cycle and bleed as well, but the blood becomes trapped in the body and has nowhere to go. the immune system is at constant battle with endometriosis lesion, causing consistent inflammation, but the body's own immune system deploys are ineffective against it. endometriosis causes severe cramping in the abdomen, back and even down the legs, chronic pelvic pain, heavy bleeding and severe clotting, fatigue, depression and anxiety, urinary problems and infertility. there is no known cause for this disease, only theories, and most point to it being auto-immune related. i was diagnosed via laparoscopy, and had endometriosis lesions removed from my left ovary, but they will grow back and continue to spread. did you know that male baldness is studied more often than endometriosis is? we deserve more recognition adenomyosis: is a chronic condition very similar to endometriosis in where tissue similar to the endometrium grows in the muscular wall of the uterus. it does not belong there either. this causes many similar symptoms as endometriosis and diagnosis is characterized by full hysterectomy, or judging the appearance of the uterus either by ultraound, MRI or laparoscopy. mine fit the criteria for adenomyosis as noted by my surgeon post-procedure.
